This was the correct head gasket for my girlfriend's LA125. I did the job previously with an aftermarket gasket set. That one lasted two seasons. This OEM gasket is thicker in certain areas so I'm hoping to get a longer lifespan out of it. It's not a difficult job but nobody wants to keep doing it constantly. Get the real deal.

This gasket is an improvement over the original, it is thicker where the original fails. The replacement job is not that difficult with the help of a fantastic video that walks you through it all in great detail. It took me a couple of hours but I did a lot of cleaning, polishing, and scraping. Also applied RTV silicone sealant. It is essential that you replace the fouled spark plug at the same time you do this job and you will need feeler guages to properly put it all back together correctly (they are cheap and sold on Amazon). Find the video, it's extremely helpful, screen shot attached.

My 15 yo JD LA115 clocked in 307 hours and had been puffing out a bit of smoke sporadically, then it started leaking oil into the vacuum line for the fuel pump (stopping the engine) so it was time for a new head gasket. Use this updated JD gasket version for your 31P6770140B1 engine and nothing else- this one is improved and has a full amount gasket seal between the cylinder adjacent to the galley where the pushrods operate ....unlike the original stock gasket which only had about 3 mm (and didn't even sit entirely on the cylinder). Started right up after setting the valves to spec and the remainder of residual smoke in the muffler burned off for about 20 minutes. Highly recommend this replacement part if all your dealing with is burning oil.

My John Deere mower blew a head gasket and I bought this one to replace it. The dealer wanted an very ,very, very high price to repair it. So, a neighbor and I did it for about $30.00 in cost. This gasket worked perfect and they even beefed up the area where the factory one broke. Hope this helps you.
