This hay holder is the best product I have bought for my guinea pigs. They are obsessed with this thing. I also like that it is so versatile - I can hook it from the side of the cage, but it can also stand on its own. This simple hay holder has given my piggies many, many hours of fun - they love to roll the ball back and forth, squeeze themselves under it, pull hay out of it enthusiastically, and fight over who gets to play with it. Many times, I will come into the room, unhook the ball from the side of the cage, stand it upright in the middle of the cage, and the piggies will groggily wake up from their naps in order to play and nuzzle with the ball for hours. Best thing I ever bought for them, period.

This is a great product; the roll is fairly easy to fill and the stand allows you to personalize how you place it in your rabbit's cage. We bought multiples and just use the extra balls as quick refills.

Let's start off by just accepting there is no way to keep hay off the bottom of the cage. I find the pigs are far too determined to make a mess. That being said, I found this product to do the best at keeping hay off the ground for the most part. Not only that but the pigs have fun with it. It does what it's supposed to do and it's also cute to have in the cage. It is fairly large compared to other hay racks I have seen and I thought that was much appreciated, it doesn't need to be filled as often. If you complain that it is too large for your cage, you have too small of a cage. People complained about the door, I haven't had a problem with it. It opens and closes easily, I also don't have a problem just shoving the hay right through the opening. It hangs up on the cage wall and it works well with c&c cages. Simple, fun, well built, and does what it's supposed to.

I bought two of these wheels thinking it would be a great way to keep the cage from having hay spilt every where. My GP like to tip over their bowls so I really thought this would be great. They were unable to pull the hay out as the wheel would just turn. When they did manage to get some out so much hay would fall out from between the bars causing a big waste. That wouldn't be so bad if they were at least able to pull out the hay somewhat easier, but it was a constant struggle for them, all three of them had the same trouble so it's not like one was a little goofy and couldn't figure it out lol.

I bought this for my guinea pig in an attempt to keep his hay up off of the floor of his cage. For the most part, it does its job. My pig quickly learned how to use it and has no problem pulling the hay out, which was a concern I had when buying it. I saw on another review that someone had cut some of the wires away to make it easier to get to the hay, but I don't think that would be necessary.I do have a couple of issues with it. First, I found the little door on it to be much too small to try to fill it. However the plastic sides do come off, so I just take one side off to fill it.No matter how I set it up, whether I just stand it on the floor or hang it on the cage wall, my piggy finds a way to knock it over. And he likes to pull lots of hay out of it all at once, which still winds up making a bit of a mess, but at least all the hay is mostly in one place. I guess those aren't necessarily flaws with the product but my guinea pig. lolSo yes, this is a nice product. Its probably neater and nicer looking than most other products I saw when shopping around, and seems to be easy to use. I would recommend this product, just remember that animals are messy no matter what you do!

I don't know why all the poor reviews...my Chin loves this thing and it really does give a cleaner easier way to feed hay to her. Before, she was just poop and pee all over the hay we put in there in her bowl so she wouldn't touch the stuff. I will say that she tends to waste alot of it by just pulling it out for fun but the stuff is 4 bucks a bale so i'm not all that worried. I did put a bowl underneath to gather what falls out so its not all wasted. The problem people are having is that the door doesn't stay latched. On the cage part of the ball, there is a door that opens up. If any hay is in the way or you OVER stuff it, then it won't latch, but I will say that I packed a ton in it and it works fine. Its the same metal that most cages are made out of so you know that its a little bendalbe. It is possible that over time it won't latch (i've only had this a week or two), but its good for now.As far as plastic goes...yes, if you have a nibbler you need to keep all pastic items out of the cage. It will kill them. BUT, this is made of a strong enough plastic, and we keep it just high enough for her to only be able to reach the bottom part. She hasn't chewed on the plastic part at all. Its strong and sturdy so it does the job. Just be prepared for a HUGE mess in your floor because this thing slings hay all over the place!

My wife and I bought this product for our 3 chinchillas. Overall the wheel is fun for them to play with since they can spin the ball while eating. The problem we had was that chinchillas chew on everything, like most rodent family pets, and the outside plastic only snaps onto the metal cage in a few areas. Well after chewing for a week or two the plastic snaps end up chewed as well. In the end we just super glued the plastic back onto the metal cage and havent had a problem since.Additionally - putting the hay inside the small cage door can be annoying for 2 reasons. 1.) the locking mechanism for the cage door is just the cage interlocking with itself with tension. Its effective for keeping the hay in but resulting in our first cage door breaking since it wasnt obvious how it closed. 2.) its just small and hard to get a large handful of hay into the hole without spilling some of it.Lastly, I'm not sure that any other product could do a better job, but when our chinchillas pull out the hay, more than what they eat comes out and usually ends up dropping to the floor which ends up being wasted.Overall - its fun, hangs well, stays closed, but for our chinchillas who chew none stop, it has a few design flaws.
