Keychron V5 QMK/VIA Custom Mechanical Keyboard - Knob Version
The Keychron V5 is a fully customizable mechanical keyboard with QMK/VIA support. Anyone can intuitively master any keyboard keys or macro commands (incl. the knob) through the VIA software. The V5 is designed to be able to assemble easily, so you can customize the hardware and software with endless possibilities.
Hot-swappable
The pre-lubed Keychron K Pro mechanical switches come with an optimized mold with more precise positioning, and less wobbliness will certainly improve your fingertip feel. The Keychron switch is durable enough with unrivaled tactile responsiveness on the tactile brown switch and up to 50 million keystroke lifespan.
The hot-swappable sockets supports both 3 pin and 5 pin MX mechanical switches (including Cherry, Gateron, Kailh, Panda, etc.), so you can customize your favorite switches without soldering.
Program Each Key and Macro with QMK/VIA
Simply connect the V5 to your device with a cable, import the V5 keymap JSON file into the VIA software, drag and drop your favorite keys or macro commands to remap any key you want on macOS, Windows, or Linux operating systems, e.g.: create a macro command of a screenshot on macOS. Check our user guide or user manual for more instructions.
A brand new ultra-low-power Arm Cortex-M4 32-bit STM32L432 MCU which is powerful, and armed with 128K Flash will provide more flexibility for developers.
All New Screw-In PCB Stabilizers
The screw-in design increases stability and makes it easier for changes and upgrades. Precise craftsmanship makes the stabilizers more stable and less wobbly. The big keys’ typing experience is now more stable and smooth. The Keychron V5 also supports third-party stabilizers including Cherry or Durock
Wired Connectivity
A reliable USB Type-C wired connection with 1000 Hz polling rate and NKRO make sure you won't miss a beat no matter cranking out emails or code.
Note: Please avoid connecting the V5 with a laptop through a hub to ensure enough power supply. For the same reason, please turn off the keyboard backlight if the V5 is connecting with a tablet.
PBT Keycaps & South-facing RGB
The south-facing RGB is designed to better illuminate the keyboard backlight from the typist’s angle and free from interference when the user installs Cherry-profile alternative keycaps on the V5.
The V5 comes with our unique OSA profile (OEM profile with spherical-angle) and double-shot PBT keycaps that aim to provide a more comfortable and subtle fingertip feel with excellent oil resistance for long-term use.

If you're first getting into mechanical keyboards that offer a bit more customization, Keychron offers some of the best deals, especially the V series. You're still getting a heavier, higher quality keyboard than some of the major "peripheral companies" that cost even more.The QMK/VIA software Keychron allows for you to program keys, create macros, etc also makes it extremely easy to dive into and get a hang of customizing.

My first mechanical keyboard and I love it. Has a great weight to it - very substantial. Got the brown switches and I like the sound and weight. Keyboard lights up and the colors and pattern are very customizable. Plug and play with my iMac. No complaints.

TLDR: If you don't have a mechanical keyboard, or are just looking to try this brand, I think this is a fantastic $100 keyboard that doesn't have gamer aesthetics. It's now my new daily driver at work, winning out over a lot of other keyboards. If I were looking for a more gaming-oriented keyboard in this price range, I'd go for the G613 by Logitech.In general: the build construction is very good and very solid. It's actually quite heavy. The K Pro Red switches are incredibly smooth; maybe more so than my Cherry Reds. The thok tone is slightly different, the volume is lower (I think the keyboard housing is at least half of this), and the actuation distance seems shorter, but I haven't looked up the documented travel of these and the Cherry's. This is just how it feels back to back with my K75 that has Cherry Reds. The space bar has a very unique sound, and the keys have far less slop than my K75. Overall, I like these more than the Cherry Reds. The keycaps are the double shots and feel great. This kind of reminds me of my old G810 Logitech with the Romer Gs, which I think are excellent switches.PC > Mac switching is just a toggle on the back and works as intended. Extra PC labeled keycaps are included, but it shipped with the Mac keycaps installed from the factory.Something to note: the RGB doesn't pass through the keycaps - it's under the keys and can be seen around the edges, but the keys are not illuminated.No regrets here. No idea how long-term reliability is going to be, since I'm new to this brand, but we'll see.

Love this keyboard! I will definitely be purchasing from keychron again. I got the prebuilt since it was only $20ish more expensive than the barebones even though I intended on swapping out the switches. $20 isn't a bad deal for doubleshot keycaps which fit in with the board perfectly. I swapped out the switches for hand-lubed gateron box ink black v2s, and I can't recommend this combination enough. Very thocky and great hand feel despite the switches being linear when I usually go tactile. Keyboard is well constructed and the base plate/silicon combo seems to do a really good job with sound. I didn't do any mods other than swapping out for the hand-lubed switches. Included switches seemed fine, but would definitely need some lube if I were to keep them installed as I could definitely feel some friction when pressing them.

Great keyboard. The layout saves spaces but preserves the most important keys. I was skeptical of the web-based "Via" software, but it works and is easy to customize. The keys don't wobble as you type and have a satisfying "thok" without much noise. Metal base is heavy so the keyboard stays in place. The wired version is fine for me. Comes with useful accessories: USB-C to A converter, key puller, screwdriver, keys for Win and Mac, etc. Worth the money. Don't cheap out on your keyboard.

At age 47, I grew up with full-sized keyboards. I used them in school, at home and in my first job. In recent years, I have gotten used to a MacBook, laptop keyboard. Now that I have a hub and monitor for my laptop, I wanted to get a mechanical keyboard.CRITERIA: One of the most important things to me was that the arrow keys had space around them, because I use the all the time, by feel. Many keyboards have these shoved within all the other keys, and no difference. I originally thought I wanted a 75% keyboard, which had the most options for offset arrow keys. I also wanted a delete key in the upper right, because I use that all the time. Again, without looking. Upon test-driving many keyboards, I realized that I also wished i had an enter key in the lower right, like in a full-sized keyboard. That said, I didn't want a FULL sized keyboard, with too much space around the arrow keys.WHY THIS ONE: This layout was the best of all worlds for me. It has offset arrow-keys (just enough to separate.) It has my enter and delete keys on the outer edges. It has a knob (a like to have, not MUST to have. Of all the keyboard brands I'd tried, Keychron was consistently high quality, without any bugs or issues. In my search, I'd also tried many different switches. I found BROWN were perfect for me. I wanted some tactile feel, but without extra "thock" or whatever the kids are calling it these days. I thought I might like blues, but found them to be too clicky -- meaning there was an extra, fake click, that felt like clipping a playing card in your bike spokes to sound like a motorcycle. Brown feels right. Feels old school. Feels solid and is not too noisy.I thought I might like the Keychron K8 or K8 Pro. I didn't like the bezel around these. It created an extra lip that my fingers had to go up and over. I like how the V-series has no bezel. They're very comfortable. I ended up buying a V1 for home (essentially the same as the V5, but without the number pad) and a V5 for the office. Keychron also won-out because they have Mac keys.Lastly - I was originally hung up on wireless, but here's the thing. I work a hybrid situation. 2 days at home, 3 in the office. I never trust that my keyboard is fully charged, so I leave it plugged in all the time any way. Plus, even if I went wireless, I didn't want it failing in the middle of work, and having to dig out a cable, and find an empty USB slot. I found it easier to just admit to myself, I need wired, and will have to deal with that cable on my desk at all times.
