When I was a kid, I had a little microscope and I LOVED that thing. So when I saw this one, suddenly some part of me thought I needed one just for nostalgia and because they're just so cool!My family love it, and even though it's a toy (obviously, for the price, this is not a "serious" scientific instrument. But it's still great!) we are having so much fun finding things to look at. It came with a bunch of slides and all of the memories from my childhood came flooding back as I looked at them.It's well made and feels very sturdy. I am so glad I got this. It's pretty great.

When I was about 12, I had one of those Porter microscope kits that came in the blue, white and black metal case with glass slides, a small incandescent lamp and an eyepiece or two. This one brings back memories. That Porter's highest magnification was about a third of this one's.It's going to be a blast using this with the younger family members so they can see what's really going on around them!During use, I noticed a couple of things:The focus adjustment is a bit uneven and balky at times. It could be that this will even out with use but this is a plastic microscope after all.The light makes all the difference. Some specimens are better viewed using the back (below) light option. While others don't really pop visually until they are illuminated directly, from above.This is more of a toy than a serious optical instrument. But, that doesn't mean it isn't useful or it's use won't be beneficial.
