I disliked the customer service first of all. I tried to return this item by messaging the company but they said the item could not be returned. The item I bought was not made properly. The problem was that the screw area was not able to be removed without stripping the screws. The metal place where the rods go through were not aligned. I had to drill out the holes, had to grind down the rods to fit into the holes. Now that I have it working, I am testing it only one of the buttons (on and off) are really working for checking temp. My advice, pay more to get something more reliable.

Love the thing except that it arrived and a screw was missing from the box. Screws are cheap so not a real problem, just annoying. It works great and is very accurate.

I just wanted to balance some of the reviews here that mentioned this pyrometer not lasting long. I have no reason to doubt those people's experiences, but I wanted to share my own: I used this unit for two years, in a really intensive setting (regular forge welding around its maximum temperature range), and it has been a very valuable and reliable tool that was, without the shadow of a doubt, worth the 50 dollars.

Seems accurate for measuring high temperatures at a cheap price. We use this for pottery kiln to measure 1,700°F to 2,200°F temps, it works for those. Comes with 2 thermocouple, one is for very high heat, (2,200°F) the other is for less than 600°F, not sure. We've tested it against 2 other very high temperature meters, seems accurate to about +/- 3 °F. Thermocouple is very delicate and wires are easy to damage.

Second one I've bought. They are reliable. Yes, the instructions could be in better English, and where the insulation butts against the ceramic connector/probes, could be of better heat resistant material, I paid for it to sense temperature in my electric kiln and raku gas kiln. I now have two readings for the upper part of the kiln and lower. Not to mention, I also had a faulty reading on my original one I bought last year. I did all I could to make contact with connectors and it would still read hi. Thus, my second one. But, the second firing produced the fault on the new unit. I found the problem on BOTH UNITS turned out to be the screws came loose. I had checked all but one screw.Look folks, cheap, sorta, but it works. Heat does something to nuts and bolts. It's called "expansion and contraction"! That causes things to loosen, even the "U shaped thingy", that is called a wire connector. Heat will open up the ends on those crimp joints.Oh yes, by the way, I emailed the business and the person was quick to get back with an answer that I had already diagnosed. But good quick service.
