For the price, this product works for attaching hard drives to USB (it has no moving parts), but Kingwin has reduced the build quality from the USB 2.0 version I have been using and I will be cautious before I buy any more Kingwin products.

we had a WD external drive that one day just wouldn't start, this device saved us from having to hire someone and give them access to all our personal files and photos, not to mention, saved us hundreds of dollars. It's not as complicated as it looks, my girlfriend used a small screwdriver and a credit card and did the whole thing in minutes. Bear in mind the transfer of files to your computer or new drive will take several hours, but who cares, your files are saved. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I used this device to retrieve files from HDDs from old computers. Worked a treat. Only issue was that it only handles SATA. IDE connection is not possible. I would recommend this product.

I bought this to try and recover the information on my laptop's HD when it died while I was on the road. It works fine in this aspect. My laptop was an HP which they partition into 3 HD's. The smaller 2 backed up fine but the big one kept failing so it may have had some damage to it. I was; however, able to recover almost all of the data from that drive which saved me a good deal of time having to rebuild many programs from scratch. I had just gotten another brand of this type of unit in 2 months ago to try and make a clone drive in case this very problem existed but 2 trips to Fry's Electronics when they said onlline they had the HD only to arrive and find their inventory was wrong so didn't get to have a clone ready to go when this problem happend, nor did I take the unit with me on the road. Thankfully Amazon had this one and it was able to have 1 day delivery, along with the 128GB Micro Flash Drive I used to store the recovered information on. It worked fine on an old borrowed laptop running Vista but can't say if it works on Windows 10 or not. I haven't had time to try it out yet but may update review to reflect findings when I do.

I ordered the "2 Bay w/ USB 3.0 B" Power Dock to -- at least temporarily -- replace a couple of older external drive cases of the same brand, which both failed in the exact same fashion. Basically, the old cases would drop the connection to the computer randomly, which actually caused one of my drives to eventually end up with a corrupted partition map, as the computer was attempting to write to the drive at the moment that the case dropped connection. (Note to self: Cheap is cheap. And they were.)I was mostly certain that the problem was just the cases and not the drives inside them, so I decided to toss some money at a dock to see if it could help me solve my problem. Yanked both drives out of the their cases, docked them into this gadget, manually copied the data from the corrupted drive to the secondary drive, and neither drive dropped connection throughout the data copy process. I was then able to reformat my corrupted drive, and everything looks good-to-go. So, this dock has successfully facilitated troubleshooting, and I can now confidently justify tossing out the old faulty cases. I haven't decided if I'm going to bother buying replacement external cases, or if I'm going to just leave the two drives in the dock... but I have to admit, with the limited number of ports on my iMac, there's some definite convenience to having both drives online by way of only a single USB cable. That said, I will add one minor critical comment, about the product: The product description currently includes the term "Hot-Swap Capability", but you should probably take that with a grain of salt. I docked the first drive and it mounted and everything looked fine; I then docked the second drive -- and I heard a loud squelch from one of the drives, and the connection to the computer for the first drive was summarily dropped. I nearly panicked, thinking that I was going to end up worse off than when I started... but no; it doesn''t appear to have damaged either drive, and it seems that maybe that kind of thing only happens when connecting a second drive, while hot.So... I strongly suggest that you don't do what I did. Instead, dismount the first drive from your computer and let it spin down, prior to connecting a second drive. I would even go so far as to suggest that maybe it shouldn't really be treated as a hot-swap capable device at all; it has an off switch on the back, so I recommend turning it off before connecting each drive. I'm still satisfied with the purchase; I'm just recommending reasonable caution, that's all.As an aside: for some reason, the Amazon "Frequently bought together" section seems to be suggesting that you purchase a separate USB cable along with this dock. Don't let that mislead you; the dock I received did indeed come with an included USB cable.... just like pretty much every single other external hard drive case I have ever purchased. Amazon's recommendation system is just confused. Ignore it.

There is not much one can say about a product like this other than it performs exactly as expected. The hard drive fits snugly and all you have to do is plug it in and it works.I am not sure I can ask for any other feature so 5 stars!

Two Year Update:I have been using the Kingwin EZ-Dock for more than 2-years with about 5 different computers. I have at least 5 of these docs (I've lost count), and I've not had any major problems. I've used them with both USB and eSATA, I've used them on Mac and PC, I've used them on various operating systems (Mac: Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks; PC: XP, Windows 7), and they've been through the ringer. Even so, I still haven't had any device failures, and all of the drives I've put in them read fine. I know not every unit is going to work perfectly, but I think that most issues have to do with the connection to the computer. I have times I have to check the connections, but I still blame that more on the cables connecting the devices, and not the dock itself. I still HIGHLY recommend this item! For the money, you are getting a great deal!************************************I own 4 of these docks and use them for different applications on both Mac and PCs. Everyone one of them has worked great, and I love the addition of the eSATA port! If you have a computer that has an eSATA port or you can put in a PCIe card to create an eSATA connection, I highly suggest using it that way. It beats the heck out of using the USB 2.0 connection! Also, these are pretty durable devices. I've moved them around quite a bit and even dropped them once or twice with no problems. Overall, if you tend to use external drives for backup or cloning purposes, this is a great buy!
