. How High-Flow Technology Works
How does the K&N 57-2519-3 increase horsepower? By eliminating airflow obstruction in your engine. Restriction of air flow between an air filter and an engine robs even the most powerful engine of horsepower. K&N air intake kits virtually eliminate air path restriction by replacing the standard air filter and the entire air path to the engine. The aerodynamically engineered conduit that makes up the 57-2519-3 drives a massive amount of air into an engine, which translates into power. This conduit begins with an oversized conical high-flow air filter. This larger filter can fit into the engine compartment using factory holes and mounting points because the K&N 57-2519-3 replaces your stock intake tube, and air box. This provides more airflow at lower restriction than a standard filter, limited by the size of the factory air box. The oversize air filter also captures and holds more dirt, increasing the service life before a cleaning is required (up to 100,000 miles). The filter is also isolated from high engine temperature by a heat shield designed to lower the temperature of the air entering the engine, which increases horsepower.

The filter attaches to a rotationally molded tube made from nonmetallic interlaced high density polyethylene (HDPE). This allows for precision shaping of the tube to reduce turbulence and accelerate airflow into the engine. This is why some K&N tubes have unique shapes or indentations that are specifically engineered for each engine configuration. Finally, the tube is connected to the engine with adapters made from high strength materials such as silicon and reinforced nylon and ensures long life. Put all this together and you have the best high-flow intake system available today.

Street Legal
Many K&N intake systems are street legal in all 50 states and include a California Air Resource Board (CARB) Executive Order (EO) number that ensures the kit has been tested to comply with emissions standards. EO numbers apply to the kit as well as the year, make and model it is being installed on. Systems with no EO number are street legal in most states but may not be used on emissions controlled vehicles in the state of California or other states adopting California emission standards. Consult K&N's website to search by part to see which cold air intakes are CARB exempt for which vehicles.

Install was easy. 2000 mustang ran great for two weeks till plastic create a break on plastic weld seam and more air was passing through. Causing car to stall.

Hard to install with its like 30 steps that took way longer than instructions stated. Own a 97 mustang gt and honestly it was NOT worth replacing the stock for this high priced contraction that doesnt give you gains in power but only sound and its durability is also iffy!

I like the fact it added more power and my engine breaths a lot better. I installed it on my 1999 GT Ford Mustang. It was designed to fit my 4.6 V8 engine.

The performance gain and audible improvement is great, but the fitment is not the best. The PCV an IAC hose fittings on the main intake tube has a bad placement (at least for my 2004 Mustang GT). They are almost exactly where the oil filler cap is located to where you can’t press down and remove the cap. I had to bend the heat shield significantly to lower the tube in order for those fittings to be low enough beneath the filler cap. Unfortunately this only allowed me to use only one (the longest one) of the engine mount brackets, but it’s still secure.Aside from that unexpected (bad design) the rest of the install was ok.

Was super easy to install, K&N could of done better on the adapter that holds the filter to the tube that probbly took me the longest trying to get the 4 bolts and washers to all align and tighten down, But other than that would definitely buy again for any of my vehicles!

You know, being K&N brand, I was expecting top quality. I found the tubing to be warped, the 2 metal brackets bent incorrectly, the instructions limited and the fit a C+.The oil fill cap gets in the way. After installation, its clear in order to remove the air filter for cleaning 1/2 of the CAI assembly needs to be removed. Not worth the price if you ask me. The only reason I picked this unit over say a BBK unit was because I didn't want the air filter tucked inside the fender. I wanted it open, in the engine compartment for easy access and so I didn't have to disassemble the CAI to remove it. Now, I still need to disassemble part of the CAI to remove the filter.I'm debating returning it, but I obviously already drilled the 11/16th hole for the air sensor.....

While I fully believe in the K&N filter technology, the two teats on the air intake are too close to the oil filter cap. One hose presses against the cap so much, it's making the oil cap and neck assembly lean over. Also, you'll have to grapple with the thick seal (although it's well constructed). In the end, you "feel" you've got a few more horses...
