This is a great product, that incorporates multiple devices in one. It is a magnetic steering table, hot plate, and has the mount to hold your temperature probe, or whatever else you would like. It is a great addition to my lab equipment, and works exactly as it is supposed to. Very accurate, consistent heat. Very cool magnetic Stirring feature. Great multi use product, and fairly inexpensive. Very easy to set up, and use. Highly recommended.

Let me preface this by saying I'm not a lab scientist, just a homebrew beer maker. I use stir plates for building yeast starters and until I got this I had been using a cheap simple stirrer. I wasn't aware that they made something like this with a built in heater. This has been awesome for making yeast starters and taken most of the annoyance out of the process. Typically I need to boil the starter wort on my stove then cool to a specific temperature, add to a flask and stir plate with the yeast. That means usually dirtying a pot, spoon, flask, thermometer, funnel etc. With this I can do it all in my brewery in one container. I add the water, and malt extract to a flask, boil in place using the built in stirrer to mix. Then I can easily monitor the temperature with the built in probe and add the yeast when cool enough. Leaving it all on the stirrer for 2 days to build the starter. Makes a multi step process basically a single step with almost no cleanup. There are a few quirks which maybe are expected by someone who works in a lab but surprised me. For one, either knob starts both the heat and stir feature when pressed in. I kind of assumed the button on the heat knob started the heat and RPM knob the stirrer but that doesn't seem to be the case. Another weird thing to me is that adjusting the RPM knob while the stirrer is running doesn't seem to work to adjust the speed. You have to turn it off, set the RPM, then back on again.Again, maybe this is desired and expected behavior and I just don't know. I could see this being a safety feature so you can't accidentally bump the RPMs too high or something. It's also possible I'm doing something wrong, the manual doesn't go into much detail. That said I'm really pleased with this hot plat/stirrer. Quirks aside, once I figured out my desired RPM settings I don't really need to change it. This has definitely improved my brewery setup and I'm really happy to have it. It's probably overkill for most homebrewers but if money is no option this is a really nice upgrade over the cheapo stir plates out there. I can't speak for the lab scientist out there but I'm a happy beer maker with this.
