This is a great tool to help burn(ish) through finishing your leather. You CAN burnish by hand, but it takes a long time and you only have one hand on your leather to control it.You CAN use a rotary tool to burnish, which works great but again, only one hand on your leather and now you're introducing speed and torque which can quickly mark up your nice leather projectWith this you can control your leather with both hands while quickly burnishing your edges. It works just like you'd think it does--it's basically a rotary tool you can mount to your tool bench, with a ton of adjustability. It's a solid tool, better quality than some rotary tools I've used. It includes a ton of different attachments. You'll probably only need 1 or 2 of them for awhile but it's nice to have additional options. In my opinion a burnishing tool like this is more important (and typically quite a bit cheaper) than a stitching pony. For this price it's a steal considering how much easier it makes my projects.

This leather burnisher came well-packed with foam between the various parts. The only downside is that all the rosewood burnishers were packaged in the same bag, and one of them had a chip taken out of it (I’ll have to see if I can superglue it back on). They included an Allen wrench to tighten the drill bit holder onto the motor and a drill chuck bit to secure the various burnishers. Unfortunately, there’s no holder for the Allen wrench or chuck key. Adding specially drilled holes in the wooden bit block or a rubber chuck key holder that could be attached to the electrical cord would be helpful. Additionally, they didn’t include a small wrench to tighten the nuts on two of the burnishers, which were both loose on arrival. The C-clamp has a maximum gap of 1 3/4” to fit onto a table edge, and the table needs at least a 1 5/8” overhang to achieve a firm grip. On my unit, the chuck key tends to stick once inserted, and I have to wiggle it free.Six of the burnishers have smooth metal shafts and are nicely balanced in the motor while spinning. However, four burnishers with screw shafts wobble slightly during use. These include the larger straight/flat one, the two single-indentation burnishers, and the inside cone-shaped burnisher. The motor runs quietly, with a hum reminiscent of an electric toothbrush. The dial speed control works very well and is a great feature to have.Overall, there are a few areas for improvement, but I like the unit and I’m glad I have it. I also own a handheld burnisher and one mounted on a large buffer, but I appreciate this burnisher because it’s small, quiet, and gets the job done. It’s also easy to store and set back up quickly.

This is a very well made miniature 1/4 inch variable speed drill that you can firmly attach to the edge of your work bench. I rarely do leather work, but what I do do is polish and grind small parts all the time, that's the reason I ordered this. The drill itself is small and very solidly made. The chuck is also good quality, 1/4 inch keyed. The input to the drill is low voltage DC, the unit comes with a small variable voltage power supply. The clamp is sturdy enough that the tool did not move when polishing some small metal parts.I like this thing. It compliments my Dremel and Foreman tools for grinding, sanding and polishing small wooden and metal parts. I can use all the buffing wheels and sanding drums from my other 2 tools on it. I have no issues with it at all other than the fact that I think $70 plus tax for it is a bit high, hence minus 1 star.

I have really enjoyed working leather edges on this burnisher. The set up provided is flexible as to position of the burnishing bit with a variable speed control that drives a whisper quiet motor. The micro jaw chuck works just as a standard drill using a key to tighten. There is a fine selection of burnishing bits provided in various widths to accommodate almost any leather project. The kit also provides a pre-drilled hardwood block to store and index the bits while not in use along with ample space for adding your own to the block. the chuck key was not provided a space in the block but expanding a hole fixed the issue of potentially loosing the chuck key as it is not a common size. None of the bits provided shook loose while using. In the pictures you can see the finished set up anchored to a work space and a sample of unfinished versus burnished edge resulting from a quick pass over the tool. Great addition to any leather working tool set that makes quick work of finished edges.

To me this looks like a drill that clamps to the side of the workbench securely, and that's why I bought it. I guess there are some safety issues if you have inexperienced people around your workshop with having a rotating drill bit sticking up, so they provide some smooth rotating bits that are good for, I guess, burnishing the edges of leather, which is not something I ever doBut I do use a drill and will sometimes value the ability to clamp it to the side of a workbench. A poor man's upside down drill press, where the drill is held in place and I have both hands free to maneuver the workpiece over it.The speed control goes from off (full left) smoothly up to full speed, and I do not know what full speed is. It's a small chuck, smaller than a standard drill, but it will fit typical drill bits. A metal chuck with tool to lock in the bits.

This is a solidly-constructed little machine with a number of included wood burnishing heads which can be used for a variety of burnishing needs, from wide cylinders for burnishing large portions of leather to narrow concave channels for burnishing leather edges. The machine itself is powerful enough for any burnishing task and the included clamp for holding the motor is strong and fully configurable for any variety of positions you may want to use.In short, if you need a burnisher, this is a great option at the price.
