I had the chance to use this item in the field. It was just plain frustrating to unlock the device to adjust the levels. The unit locked on me and could NOT un lock it all. I ended up getting it off my tripod and throw it inside my camera bag. NOT recommended at all from my point of experience with the unit. Sorry leofoto I think you need to chance the locking mechanism design. It’s BAD. LIKE OTHERS HAD EXPERIENCE TOO.

This base works perfectly and it’s locking butterfly ring locks down well, so well in fact you must ensure you have it secured to your tripod tightly other wise when you loosen the butterfly lock the base will loosen from the tripod!

It came already locked and absolutely stuck in this position. I'm almost 2 meters tall and weight 120 kg, but even I couldn't unlock it.Useless piece of garbage.

I bought this to level the tripod for my astrophotography setup as the tripod is very heavy and awkward to level the legs individually. This levelling base is ideal for the tripod as the adjustment collar clears the top of the tripod while the side mounted adjustment knobs on other bases do not.The base is very easy to level and lock and seems well engineered, it also came from the US much quicker than anticipated and is cheaper than UK based suppliers.

The build quality is very good for the price. It is lightweight and compact. Thus, minimizing the weight of your tripod. Great for lightweight set-up for carrying camera gear on a hike or backpacking. However, the leveling indicator bubble is too small and hard to see. This is even problematic for low light situations.

It works. Serve the purpose: provide a level platform for upper head, while the tripod itself is not level.

There are better levelling bases out there if you are ready to spend much more. But this gets the job done. And its easy to set up. Also takes a nice load. 15 degrees of tilt is btw more than enough. If you need more you have better adjust your overall setup.

Most leveling bases use a tension stem screw to lock the base into position. If the stem ends under the base, than you have to spring-pull it out to ratchet it back to tighten or loosen. When the screw/knob on the tripod happens to face away from you, it's confusing and difficult to manipulate it.I purchased this for the fact that it's designed to be grabbed like a wing-nut from either side to loosen. THE PROBLEM IS that- unlike the screws knob style- which can be loosened gradually to allow you to readjust your camera rig's framing with by nudging it (while maintaining sufficient tension to continue to uphold your camera), the Leophoto wing-nut design LOOSENS LIKE A TOGGLE- i.e., totally locked or totally loose! The grab is not gradual! Plus, when it's locked, it typically requires 2 hands- 1 to hold the base & the other to twist. Yet, if supporting a video camera, it requires you to also have a free hand to hold onto your camera that will drop once you loosen that wing-nut! So if you're filming, you're stuck - because loosening it will risk (commonly) losing your framing! Yet, they cost 50-100% more than many of the the knob-controlled alternatives. I am frustrated by this product. Do any of Leophoto's more expensive versions have more nuanced control? Or less toggle and more gentle? Otherwise, consider yourself informed regarding the trade-off you'll assume with these products!

The "butterfly" twist lock work best if this leveling base is locked with set screw on tripod mount. If no set screw and only tighten with friction, the base can come lose when twisting the butterfly lock handle to unlock the base. This is well made and operate very nicely enough. I don't think the surfaces are "painted" as someone said here.Slight problem is the circular base part that screw onto the tripod is a smooth, it's very hard to get a good grip to screw on tightly. Would be nice if it has some texture or "ridges" for griping by hand. There are couple of holes on the side, maybe they intend you to use a couple of hex wrench for leverage to screw tightly to the tripod? But requiring tools is no good.Small nitpick: the level spirit is too small, the water bubble is hard to see. This is useless and better off not to include this a save some production cost.

The design of this leveling base is different from most of the other options out there. The twist lock makes it easy to tighten the base down in exactly your intended position while, at the same time, never interfering with the operation of your tripod head or being interfered with by your tripod legs. It's a great design. The built-in level is large enough to read but small enough not to interfere with the operation of your head when in the horizontal position. (See photos.) By comparison, I used an Acratech leveling base for some years that came with a huge bubble level and substantial locking knob, both of which were constantly in the way.The leveling base is relatively lightweight at 7.2 oz or 206g. This may be the first time I've weighed a photographic accessory that was actually the weight claimed in the specs. It comes with a nice padded case similar in style to Canon's included lens cases (but with more padding). In terms of quality of construction, there were no obvious flaws or shortcuts in its design. Both the silver and the black are paint, not anodized metal. (The same is true of my Arca-Swiss p0 head.) It seems to work like it should without any hiccups. I wouldn't describe it as silky smooth but it isn't coarse either. It's about what you would expect for the price. If there was one feature I would like to see added, it would be the ability to pan the top of the base 360 degrees while locked in position. This would be very handy when used with a head like the p0 that doesn't offer panning control at the base of the head. The bottom line is that I recommend this panning base. It offers a superior design at a fair price.

I'm very happy with this purchase. The LB-60 works exactly as needed for leveling the camera quickly and precisely. The LB-60 has good hand feel. It feels like high quality. It's well made and solid design.
