The orientation of the clamp is odd, but you can change it just by unscrewing the top and rotating the clamp.

This tripod head is solid as they come. My first indication was the packaging. It is so well-packed that it was almost a shame to take it out of the package! The mount just exudes quality and craftsmanship. When mounted to a good tripod, you have complete control of altitude and azmuth. You can take time to consider your shot and ensure you get the best composition possible.I am an active photographer with decades of experience. I have used a lot of kit and this one stands out!I highly recommend this unit.

I was looking for a new tripod head that could manage the weight of my gear along with being light enough to carry around but something different from a ball head.I came across Acratech and Leofoto 2-way heads and liked their basic functionality but for my level of photography at the moment couldn’t see spending an almost extra $300 on the Acratech. The reviews I read of the Leofoto head were good enough especially the side by side comparisons with just a few minor complaints that were more individually oriented. I ended up getting the Leofoto leveling base and a larger clamp, which was just my own preference. So far it’s worked fine with no complaints. For me adjusting the level on the head takes a bit longer but I find myself taking more time to compose and I’ve actually noticed a difference in my photos. This benefits me because I mostly do landscape, portrait and still-life. Personally I would look for something different if I were doing sports or wildlife but having the leveling base does make these styles more accessible. One person complained about the orientation of the clamp for the quick release plate. You can unscrew the clamp from the head and orient it however you like. That was the first thing I did when I received the head. It was a complete pain at first because the clamp was not only screwed on but was apparently glued as well. Now I can orient the clamp for normal lenses or larger lenses with their own lens foot. This was a minor adjustment and something I expected to correct when I received the head.Overall I’m happy with the quality and feel of the head and its attachments. I may move up to the Acratech someday but at the moment quite pleased with Leofoto.

I am editing this review but please continue reading to the end so you don’t make the same mistake that I made. I am editing because of the excellent customer service I received from LEOFOTO. I complained about not making it clear that the camera clamp could not be rotated to accommodate an L bracket. I received an immediate reply stating I could exchange it if Amazon bought the device from LEOFOTO. I sent them the receipt from Amazon but was told Amazon did not buy from them but from a third party so they could not make an exchange. But they did say I could buy a clamp for $23 that would allow the proper mounting of an L bracket. Not ideal but it solved the problem and I appreciate the quick response. It was my own fault I suppose that I did not look closely at the orientation of this product. It is faulty engineering and useless to many photographers. This product cannot be used with a L bracket and does not allow portrait or multilayered portrait panoramas. The clamp is 90 degrees off so when using an L bracket you loose the up and down axis. The clamp is screwed to the base but it is keyed to where it can only be mounted in one direction. If it were engineered properly a cross key would have used to allow a 90 degree mounting option.I am stuck with it because I had been shooting video for some time and had not used it.

The unit seems to be built with the attention for detail, but I was unable to tighten the unit sufficiently. Definitely not the same as their more expensive American counterpart, which I have now and I am very happy with. Should have bought that one in the first place.

I put this on a leofoto tripod and it gives my camera freedom of movement without the bulk of a gimbal head. Tension can be adjusted and when it is locked in place it is rock solid. I am glad I made this purchase.

Second best to the more expensive one you see advertised. As little smaller but I have a Nikon. D7100 with battery grip, and telephoto Ken's attached. No weight issue, operates as rentended with smooth action. Looking to do multiple row gigapixel panos. Do not let the ssize and price fool you.
