Save on your electrical bill and add convenience to everyday living when you install this Leviton Decora PR180 occupancy sensor. It uses passive infrared technology in order to detect human presence in a room, and respond to the infrared heat people naturally emit to monitor a specific area. When this "heat" is sensed, the lights will stay ON in the room, and then turn the lights OFF, when the space is vacated or are unoccupied. The Leviton PR180 offers 180 degrees field of view and 400 square feet of coverage — perfect for use in large rooms, home offices and a variety of light commercial and residential applications.

This Decora also includes a manual override, which complies with California Title 24 by requiring the user to manually turn the lights on but will automatically turn the lights off when a space is unoccupied. It ensures that lights are not left on unnecessarily for hours at a time. A wall plate is included, and it's also compatible with optional Decora screwless snap-on wallplates (sold separately). Does not work with CFL bulbs.

From the Manufacturer

Leviton offers many products that will help lower electrical costs and add convenience to everyday living. By simply replacing standard switches with occupancy sensors reduces energy consumption and extends bulb life. Leviton's Decora (R) Occupancy Sensor Switches automatically turn lights ON when you enter a room and OFF when you leave. In addition to the convenience of hands-free switching, motion sensors ensure that lights are not left ON unnecessarily for hours at a time. It uses "passive infrared technology" in order to detect human presence in a room, and respond to the infrared heat people naturally emit to monitor a specific area. When this "heat" is sensed, the lights will stay ON in the room, and then turn the lights OFF, when the space is vacated or are unoccupied. Purchased and installed this motion sensor back 3 months ago. The install was fairly easy, though the adjustable controls are very touchy and the instructions are vague.Once I had it set up the way it needed to be, the switch worked great. I'd enter my laundry room, the light (a simple incandescent lampholder) would go on, and shut off later when I left.I would've given the item 4 or 5 stars...if it hadn't failed on me this week.Only 3 months into service, I got a slight high-pitched buzzing sound in the laundry room. I went over to the switch and turned it off. The buzzing stopped...and so did the operating life of the switch. It was DOA.For this price, the sensor needs to have longer life. Failing this soon is unacceptable.

the switch works ok but the installation can be troubling for some people. The switch itself is so big it will not fit properly into a usual electrical box so I had to buy a extension electrical box and install it to the existing electrical box. Now the switch is installed sticking out from the wall a couple of inches, ok for a garage but not for inside a house.

I've really loved having the lights in my laundry room come on as I walk in. My laundry room is a walk-thru to the garage, so the light also comes on when we walk in from the garage. It's great not to enter a dark room! The only thing not perfect about it is it only works with motion :). If I'm holding still too long, folding laundry at the counter blocked by the dryer, the light goes off. I have to move a bit to get it to come back on. This has been installed for many months and is still working perfectly.

Look I'm not an electrician but I can certainly swap some wires around - I have no idea if these come with wallplates or not. The picture clearly shows a wallplate and all subsequent pictures show wallplates. If the product does not include something it should be CLEARLY written that it does not include the additional item which is clearly shown in the pictures as being a part of the product being sold. The thing works fine and I would give a "working fine" 4 stars but I call attention to the fact that it's mislabeled and now I have to buy $25 in crap to get the wallplate shipped to me when I had the original item on a $100 order. Silly Amazon. So yeah.. Order a wallplate with it.

These are great for rooms that go well as hands-free such as bath and utility rooms, especially if you have little ones. This model is an occupancy sensor which means that the light will come on if motion is detected and turn off after a set period of time when there is no motion. There is also a manual slider switch to force the light on or off. These are a little easier to install than the push button vacancy sensors which require a neutral connection. I've had mixed results with CFLs although traditional bulbs function the best, halogen too. Great product!

Loved the device for the 2 months it worked. When I called for warranty because it was flickering on/off with no movement (all night long), I have to send it back and wait for them to QC it and send it back to me. I could see that in 6 months, but this is within 90 days. When it worked, it is a great device so I can recommend it highly if you get one that is not defective. Unfortunately for me, mine was defective after the Amazon return policy expired.

The description in the title is wrong! This product is not sound activated, only motion activated. I bought it for the sound activation, as I need to bridge a larger distance than the meager 20ft reach of the motion sensor. I installed it anyway, and the other disappointment was that it doesn't work well with my energy saving fluorescent lights. The light turns ON fine when activated, but in automatic activation mode the light never turns OFF completely. When the timer switches to "OFF", the fluorescent light keeps flickering. The regular shipping charge of more than $7 (half the item's price!) was also kind of hefty, considering the small size of the item. On the plus side (I have to justify giving a star), the installation instructions are clear enough that even I, as a novice, was able to install it as a 3-way switch. Too bad it's not equipped to do what is advertised, and it does a lousy job at what it's equipped to do.

I bought two of these dimmers to use in our powder rooms (1/2 baths). There are small adjustment sliders along the left hand edge of the device, for setting the amount of ambient light below which the device will work (so if you have a window, it won't switch on if it's daylight), and for setting the time delay before the device shuts off automatically (in our case, the fan is on the same switch, so by setting a delay of a few minutes, the fan has a chance to clear the air). After turning the circuit breaker off, I installed the first in a bath with two halogen fixtures, and spent a bit of time with the slider adjustment for time delay. The device will shut off the light if you are not actively moving, so I wanted to make certain that if wouldn't leave folks in the dark. I set it, put back the cove plate, and went on to the next. The main difference between bath 1 and 2 is the difference in light fixture, where the second is in the cellar and has a ceiling-mount, fluorescent fixture. When I completed the rough installation and put the breaker back on, I discovered that the light would flicker (more like a strobe light in an old disco). I thought perhaps it might be a faulty device, but a few minutes on the web convinced me that the type of fluorescent was the issue, as the fine print in the product spec. says, "Rapid Start Magnetic fluorescent ballast" required.I would rate this a five, so far, with incandescent (regular filament bulbs or halogen), but useless with (some) fluorescent. Leviton should make the note about which fluorescent a more prominent part of their information. They do make a "commercial grade" sensor switch that does not have the same "Rapid Start..."-only restriction, and that part is Leviton ODS10-ID.
