It’s light, feels somewhat like a toy, but it’s a nice little lamp. To light the wick, you lift the spring-loaded lid and drop the lever down to angle the globe. Then reverse the process to enjoy the light. It’s a bit awkward since the lamp is so light-weight you have to hold the lamp down while reversing the lever. Once lit the lamp does produce a significant amount of heat out the top so it can double as a small heater with appropriate fuel. The base is sufficiently wide to prevent the lamp from being tipped accidentally, you’d have to bump it pretty hard, especially if its tank is full.

This lantern is very nice. It's all metal and glass. Its very large and puts out a good deal of light. The storm top and hinge both funtion easily. This is not just a decorative lantern, it really is made to work hard. The metal is sturdy and it came with extra wicks. It did not come with oil, you'll have to purchase separately. The metal is sturdy and thick. The glass is strong. I dropped it once on my rug and it did not break. Great, rugged lantern.

Good emergency light. Enough light and heat for a single room. 12 hours still burning.

These are light duty lanterns. But, they are great and put out a good, usable amount of light. The baby size is nice as a mood light indoors, but the Blizzard is big and uses a 7/8 inch wick. The Blizzard’s bigness takes away from cuteness, but the large flue is needed to promote a good burn for a larger flame. The cold blast design of over a hundred years ago is still the best for a kerosine lantern. The current version has thin metal and glass. However, as a tool, I’ll just replace it if I crunch it.Gas pressure lanterns put out much more light, but need to be pumped and are kinda noisy with fragile mantles. They have there place. I use gas lanterns for short periods of need but kerosine all evening. Also note: as with all kerosine lanterns, they will leak if tipped. Much less likely to cause a fire than a white gas lantern…. I’ve tried transporting these lanterns with fuel- bad choice and always a mess. Doesn’t leak during regular use. My small old Dietz lanterns are now for collecting these are for use in the field. The extra wicks is a win. They will far exceed the need and longevity of the lantern.I have several now.
