Best for soft cheeses. Not sure if it’s the angle or the sharpness of the blade but didn’t slice as well as our previous Swedish made slicer.

Have used the angled blade slicer like this one and it seems to be better for softer cheese than this straight blade model. Otherwise, this works great on hard or soft cheese, cleans up easily and is better than any wire or metal slicer.

Great for medium hard cheese--or ice cold butter, even slice wafer thin slices of seedless cucumbers. I own a few, have given several away. The only downside is paying $9-$12 for something that should sell with free PRIME delivery for $5-7.

I have a slicer that is similar to this one and love it. This one was purchased for a friend and it works well. Slices cheese easily and evenly.

Have owned many, many cheese planes over the years and was always less than satisified with their performance on softer cheeses such as gouda. This one performs wonderfully! Cheese never wrinkles and it takes very little effort to pull the plane through the cheese. I can attest that the combination of a very sharp blade with the abbreviated form make for the perfect plane for softer cheeses. The materials are of very high quality plastic and steel, and the handle is nicely shaped.

Growing up, we had a cheese plane that cut really thin slices of cheese. I haven't yet found anything that slices that thinly, but having purchased numerous planes that don't really work at all over the years, I'm happy to report that the Linden Sweden Hard Cheese Plane works as advertised: that is, it actually *slices* the cheese. It works so well that I've purchased one for each of our kids as well.Thank you, Linden—my never-ending search for a decent cheese plane has finally ended!

This is perhaps the 4th hard cheese slicer I've owned. When I got it, the first impression was, "well, they certainly saved money on the metal used." But after just a couple of passes across the cheese block, I realized. Bigger and beefier is not the optimum in slicers. This flexes perfectly, the width and thickness of slice is just what you'd want, and it's fairly effortless. This is, by a margin, the best hard cheese slicer I've ever used. Color me pleasantly surprised.on edit: I've noticed a couple of people say the 'tail' of the slice is a bit of a problem. I'd suggest either lifting the slicer before the end of the block, or putting just a nick in the end of the cheese closest with the slicer reversed, and then slice, for the perfect slice. I think this still takes off less of a tail than other slicers I've used.

It's odd to me that folk get excited about a cheese cutter, but judging by the number of exclamation points in some of the other reviews, apparently it is possible. I bought this because [1] the price is right and [2] it was made in Sweden. It's hard to tell from the picture, but the stainless steel blade is so thin that when you grab it between your thumb and index finger, you can flex it a wee bit; whether this is good or bad is a matter of opinion (or perhaps fact, if you read arcane food science journals or know enough about physics). It seems to work fine, and while its sharp blade poses the danger of drawing blood (which my wire cheese cutter does not), it will probably last much longer than the wire cutter. Here are some fun facts about Sweden, courtesy of Wikipedia:"Sweden maintains a Nordic social welfare system that provides universal health care and tertiary education for its citizens. It has the world's eighth-highest per capita income and ranks highly in numerous comparisons of national performance, including quality of life, health, education, protection of civil liberties, economic competitiveness, equality, prosperity and human development."

Having purchased NUMEROUS cheese slicers throughout the years, I have to say that I was somewhat moved by others' comments to purchase this slicer and "give it a chance."I like to purchase Cheddar cheese by the block (as well as colby cheese). Previous slicers only frustrated me because they just simply did not live up to the expectations of an easy and convenient slicer. I've used wire slicers which broke apart easily, knives supposedly designed for hard cheese, and other various slicers. All which have disappointed me.This one though, I have to confess, worked GREAT! It does an outstanding job slicing our cheddar cheese. It slices it in a nice "not so thick, not so thin" slice. Perfect for us to layer on our sandwiches or to put on top of our nacho chips and heat up in the microwave. My wife commented to me that this was probably the best slicer that I've ever purchased for slicing cheese and I could not agree more. Even though I have one, I have thought of purchasing a second as a backup.PROS: Perfect slice every time, built well, ease of use (for those with arthritis)CONS: None noted.

There is a story behind our purchase of this cheese plane. Forty years ago, my wife purchased a cheese plane that worked wonderfully well. The wooden handle is getting worn, so we were looking for a replacement. We purchased 8 or 10 cheese planes -- every cheese plane we could find -- including on by Wusthof -- but none of them would give us a clean slice of cheese (we most often slice cold cheddar). In some cases, they gave us an uneven slice. In most cases, they caused the last half-inch of the cheese block to crumble. But recently my wife was in a really nice kitchen store and found a cheese plan for hard cheeses. The label on the handle was "Jonas." IT WORKED GREAT!!! FINALLY!!! YEAH!!! Now we no longer have to worry about a replacement cheese plane when the old one dies.We Googled "Jonas cheese plane" and found that it was made in Sweden by Linden. The Linden site had a link to Amazon, so we ordered another one. While were were at it, we ordered this Linden Cheese Plane Shredder and a Linden Sweden Cheese Plane for Soft Cheese. They all work well.A couple of days ago, I took a bag full of cheese planes to the thrift shop -- BUT NOT these Linden cheese planes. We anticipate keeping these forever -- and buying additional sets for kids and friends.
