Lithops Greasing Procedure

Why We Need Lithops Greaseable Sway Bar Link?

- The function of the sway bar is to keep the vehicle stable while negotiating a bend or hitting potholes, therefore sway bar links are susceptible to car rusting and general wear and tear. Worn-out sway links can make the system stiff. These problems could be solved or prevented by injecting new grease.

Lithops provides greaseable solution that allows you to grease the sway bar link without dismantling or puncturing the dust boot to enhance service life

When Should We Inject New Grease Into Sway Bar Link?

- When the links run out of grease, you’ll hear rattling or squeaky sounds when you turn the steering wheel to the left or right and when you hit a pothole.

- It is essential to grease your sway bar links at least once a year. Car maintenance can be a bit of a drag, but it is rewarding and adds years to the life of the car.

Are the links already pre-greased ?

When you receive the Lithops sway bar link, you do not need to add any more grease as it is already filled.

1

1. Check the dust boot and clean the zerk

First, you should inspect the dust boot for leaks. If the old sway bar link is damaged, please replace it with a new one

Clean off the zerk then attach the grease gun to the zerk fitting

2

2. Attach grease gun to zerk

Make sure the fitting as squarely as possible and press down till you feel the “click” of the adapter grabbing the zerk.

If the nozzle of the grease gun hasn’t connected to the zerk then grease will ooze from between the zerk and the grease gun

3

3. Inject dust boot and timely stop

Watching the dust boot and slowly give the grease until you see the boot begin to be slightly swollen

DO NOT CONTINUE GREASING ONCE YOU SEE THE BOOT SWELL

4

4. Check the shape of the dust boot

After injecting grease, the dust boot becomes slightly swollen which is best state

Swing the joint around to make the grease evenly wrapped on the surface of the ball joint

If too much pressure is applied, the dust boot and the seal that holds that grease in the ball joint will be damaged. If this happens you will need replace that part

5

5. Clean the sway bar link

Wipe any excess grease away from the zerk and dust boot.

If the grease on the zerk is not wiped clean, it may cause the zerk blocked and affect the efficiency of injecting grease.

6

6. If the zerk fitting is blocked

You can remove the zerk by wrench and re-install after injecting grease.

So I had my mechanic install this on my 2010 mazda 3 ......when I drove it it still made noise up front due too struts that I purchased not having the the shock nut tight....also when I turned it made a rubbing sound so we inspected the sway bar links and noticed they were running on frame and passenger side fitting broke off ....this on on pic I had to take off so would not rub....so I made sure fitting were thight before installing ...but still rubbed not happy with this purchase ...I gad to leave and cover holes of fittings with silicone

First of all, these connecting links appear to be of very good quality for the price. The seal boots have retainers to secure and seal well from dirt and moisture. The only downside is that they have straight zerks which is okay for the bottom for me. I have a 360° double swivel adapter on my grease gun's coupler. However, the top fitting is not reachable, probably by any grease gun coupler I know of. Doesn't matter what strut position. So, change out the top one for a 45° or 90° zerk fitting. I recommend pointing it forward, and always leave a heavy film on the zerk. Only wipe them clean before regreasing. The key wrench type and the combination wrench will likely both be different if you are replacing the original equipment links, thread pitch too. ALWAYS SUPPORT THE VEHICLE BY SECONDARY MEANS WHEN WORKING UNDERNEATH! Be Safe, Safety First to enjoy the rest of your day.
