Can older dogs be trained to use the Pet Potty or is it primarily used just for puppies?

Although the training process varies from dog to dog, training adult dogs can be quite easy, since they have learned to control their bladder and yearn to please their masters. It is simply a behavior modification process requiring consistency, time, patience and proper use of a reward system. It should be noted that training an adult dog to “go” in an indoor potty area may take additional time and perseverance.

"I can’t believe how much easier potty training has been with it and I don’t know what we would have done without it." Elizabeth (Chicago, IL)

Most dogs are house-trained from an early age. And are able to go outside when they need to relieve themselves. Some dogs are even trained by their owners to ring a bell when a call of nature occurs.

However, if you live in an apartment or a home where you don't have access to a garden or yard, what's a dog to do when he needs to go and he just can't wait? And what about dogs whose owners work long hours, leaving their pups home alone? You can't reasonably expect your dog to wait more than a few hours before he has a chance to relieve himself.

An indoor dog potty can be a good solution where dogs have to be left alone for more than a few hours on a regular basis, or in an emergency. Or where a dog needs more frequent access to a toileting area.

My dogs took right to this potty pad. It came fully assembled. I popped the two pieces apart and inserted a puppy pad between it so there wouldn't be urine collecting on the plastic bottom. I also have some "go here" spray for them to encourage them to go in specific places, so I sprayed a couple of squirts on the grass after I put the pad inside of it. They immediately went to the potty tray and my bichon used it within 10-15 minutes of it being put down. I'm very happy with everything about this potty try with the exception of shipping. I ordered this on 2/18 and it didn't arrive until 3/7. Not sure why it took so long because the item now says 5 day delivery. Anyway, I knew it wasn't overnight when I ordered it. Just complaining about it anyway... I think the price for this is very reasonable. Some may think it's over priced for a couple of thin pieces of plastic and a small piece of artificial grass. But for me, it's a life (and floor) saver, so I think it's a good deal.

Why are these manufacturers so allergic to instructions? I know, not rocket science but you could toss this out for Fido and never realize there is a drain hose packed into a compartment underneath; or find the drain port; or know how to fasten aforementioned hose to aforementioned port. Or how to disassemble the bezel and tray to hose off the internal bits.Sigh.All that said, this is a nice doggy pee pad. Large, drains off into the garden (via a aformentioned aforementioned hose), cleans up easily with a hose.

I have a senior dog that is pee shy. This type of unit is new to me. It may seem like this is a no brainer to use but there are variables to the method this provides for your pet and your peace of mind. There is a 5-6” wide tray underneath, a top plastic frame, a plastic sheet with squares and a faux grass sheet/pad…there is a blue hose as well..that’s it. No help in setting this up, how to introduce this, how to best handle a fully saturated tray, what to use as a cleaning solution, little tricks to accomodate a dog with lots of fluid..for me that is a shame. As I said, I have a senior dog that is experiencing night time anxiety and I need to do research on how to introduce this style of accommodation as well as how to successfully use it. I read some of the reviewers that used an additional pee pad to soak up urine which is a great tip. The size of this would be for a medium dog and not a large as stated. The pieces seem built well enough and the price point is comparable to others online. Very disappointed in lack of information provided…that’s why the deduction of stars, it makes a difference on the outcome in my case.

This is a clever way to help your puppy or senior dog not make a mess in the house and it provides them with an emergency backup (because even dogs get indigestion and can’t make it to the door fast enough sometimes). The system disassembles easily and I was able to place a potty-training pad inside to absorb liquid rather than needing to drain it. Cleanup is quick and easy and the faux grass is familiar to the dog so it makes this an easy to learn relief area.

This potty pad is actually great. First it is a great artificial grass material, but doesen’t shed. Has snaps all the way around that snap onto a washable peepad which absorbs the pee. I inserted pee pads inbetween to absorb the pee. Its very durable because my puppy tries to destroy it and it has held up great. It doesn’t keep away the pee smell, but its very simple to rinse it and hang dry. The pee pad can be washed in a machine and will hold up. Good quality and is great for travel.

If you want somewhere that your dog can get comfortable with doing it's potty indoors, this grass potty pad is what you need. So far, my dog needs a place to do it's thing and rather than letting it out in the backyard on the grass, things are way more convenient with this potty pad. Overall, if you are a dog owner, this potty pad is a decent purchase.
