No more smelly food waste. My garbage has been reduced to a handful.

Did a lot of evaluation before we purchased the Lomi. The Lomi has not disappointed ! Hated the idea of a yard composter and all the work of tilling the soil, worrying about the bugs and the constant attention. The Lomi has been so easy to use . Saving all our vegetable/fruit scraps , coffee grounds, egg shells and a little cardboard and the result is wonderful. Using our Lomi every 2-3 days. We’ve put the compost in our yard and have seen the flowers and vegatable garden flourish. No mess, no smell , no problem.

I am now able to mix the Lomi dirt directly into my raised vegetable garden beds. Nice not to have to wait a year for my regular compost material to break down to a consistency that is acceptable to put into the garden beds.

I find I'm using this more and more. What I'm doing with my scraps might be the difference between my use and that of other users. I don't put them in the machine right away. I stick them in a plate by my window so that the morning sun will dry the food out before its placed in the lomi. I started doing that after I opened the lid and saw that not everything had turned to dirt. Now it does. If you don't have the lid completely closed, you might notice a smell when you're using it. Be sure that the lid is tightly closed on all sides. Not closed on one and lifted ever so slightly on the other side. The other day I was cleaning my lomi, and there's a part that's removable (the part that spits out the dirt) that you can take apart and the dishwasher really cleans it up nicely. So I'd taken it part and put the two pieces of that particular part in the dishwasher. Unfortunately, during that cycle, the sealing gasket (which I'd forgotten to remove) came off so when I opened the dishwasher there were three pieces instead of two. I tried unsuccessfully to try getting it back together, and then called amazon to see if I could get a replacement part for that little gasket. Lomi didn't give them an option to replace that part, so they initiated a return and were going to send me a new one. After we got off the phone, I tried again to replace it and this time it worked! I've used it successfully twice since then. I have some gaskets on order now to take care of the issue if it ever arises again. ($5.99 for 6 gasket seals). So I cancelled the return. Thanks Amazon, you've been great thruout. Didn't want to have to return it!!!Footnote: I initiated another return and thankfully I was able to cancel that one as well. The reason for the initiation? When plugged in, the Lomi wouldn't start after I pushed the button. The button wouldn't even turn it on. The customer service never made any suggestions other than to return it. When I started to take it apart to put it in a box, I found that the cord that plugs into the wall, also plugs into the lomi. I'd forgotten about that. It had worked itself out of the lomi when I turned the lomi a little bit. After I plugged it back into the lomi, it worked! Again, saving the hassle of the return. The reason for my posting that bit of information is so that if your lomi doesn't work, you check both ends of the cord to see they're both plugged in.

This kitchen composter is a great way to reduce waste and make composting cleaner. It is a slightly large countertop appliance, but it has a very sleek and clean appearance. I really appreciate that it is white, that is rounded in shape and that the bucket is dishwasher safe. It works great, is easy to set up and use, and the end product is what it should be. It does make some noise when running, but it’s not any louder than running a dishwasher, and it’s not disruptive. I highly recommend this product.

This works exactly as advertised! I got it because no matter how food waste was handled we were getting infested with flies and their, uh, larval forms. I run this a couple of times a week and the resulting product is low volume, dry and has very little odor (and that odor doesn't smell like garbage or attract bugs). If you put it in your yard you will smell *something* when it rehydrates but it isn't offensive (I personally wouldn't use it in indoor houseplants, though, because you can't mix it in). If you don't garden you can just dispose of the "dirt" in your yard waste/ green bin. It takes several hours to process a load, so I find it's best if I run it before turning in at night. There are all sorts of valid ecological reasons to use this, but mostly I never wanted to see another maggot again and so far it is holding up its end of the bargain perfectly.

I’m not sure why people say it’s so quiet. It is much louder than a dishwasher. I generally run it outside because of the noise. We are far from our kitchen but can clearly hear its whine when we try running it overnight. Also, I added all the charcoal bits and use the Lomi pellets but it still produces a mild odour unlike anything I’ve ever smelled. To me it’s not pleasant but this may not be the case for others. However I would heartily refute the comments that say there is no odour. Buyer beware.

I’ve been shopping on Amazon since 1995 and have purchased thousands of products over that time. I believe this is only the second negative review that I’ve ever submittedAfter careful research, I purchased a Lomi composter on December 12, 2022. The return window closed on January 31, 2023 (50 days later). This composter is a good idea and seems to be sturdily constructed. However, I think the parent company (Pela) put this item on the market before working out all of the kinks. There are a variety of problems with this product, only one of which will I describe here. When we received our Lomi composter, we read the instruction manual carefully and followed all of the included instructions. Initially, the composter worked as advertised, and we were very pleased. However, a few months after we began using our Lomi, we found that composted kitchen waste was baked onto the bottom of the bucket (see attached picture). This happens about once every three or four times we use the composter.Sometimes, this baked-on compost is thick enough that it jams the rotor. More often, the rotor will still turn. Sometimes, I can carefully remove the baked-on compost with a plastic tool (again, see the attached photo). Other times, I have to soak it out (thus, rehydrating what I’ve just paid to dehydrate); the consequent swelling can also jam the rotor. The only other person I know who has a Lomi composter has reported experiencing the same problem.I don’t know what causes this problem. However, I’ve noticed that after the light comes on to indicate that the Lomi is cooling, the light indicating that the Lomi is drying remains on. If the machine is supposed to be cooling but it’s still drying (hence, heating), maybe that could cause this problem. In any case, although I strongly support winter composting and, thus, conserving landfill space, I cannot in good conscience recommend this Lomi composter.

I rarely write a review, but I'm so pleased with the Lomi I thought I would share my thoughts. I learned about the Lomi from my son. I knew they were very pleased as it reduced their garbage pickup load. I live rurally, and I had a compost pile outside my kitchen. I did not tend to it but only used it as a place to dispose of all the vegetable trimmings, and leftovers. The straw that broke the camel's back with my out-of-sight-out-of-mind method, is that in the country we always have rodents -- now more than ever. So, we decided to face this problem upstream, I think we were feeding the critters. The Lomi is so awesome. Every night I pour my counter compost bucket into the Lomi. In the morning I have "dirt". Clean. A relief. It's bigger than expected. Not counter-sized in my eyes. We have it in our laundry room and run it overnight. No problem with the noise of the machine. We're very happy with it.
