I love this file cabinet. The lock helps me secure papers and my purse when the cleaning lady comes. It is large enough for all my files and jewelry.

The file cabinet itself is fine: it does the job it was designed for and looks clean and professional.The poor rating is not for the item itself so much as the packaging: there is basically no padding between the fairly thin-gauge sheet metal cabinet and the cardboard shipping box. As a result, I ordered 3 of these and all 3 arrived damaged (in separate shipments). One had only a fairly minor dent, but 2 were damaged beyond use. And I went out of my way to buy them from Amazon.com rather than a 3rd party marketplace vendor in the hopes of reducing the chance of this.In short, if you order one of these, be sure you feel lucky, because the odds are against you receiving a usable product.

After reading reviews from other purchasers, I was worried about the condition my cabinet would be in. Not much packaging inside the box...small pieces of styrofoam at the corners of the cabinet. There was a minor puncture of the cardboard box, but the cabinet was in great shape except for a small dimple on the edge of the cabinet. It does not affect the function of the drawer at all. Was so minor, not worth requesting a replacement. It arrived sooner than I was advised, but that was fine. Overall, I would order again.

10/15/20 Update - The replacement cabinet arrived with dents also. One of the dents on the side has a sharp edge. It looks bad but at least it is functional unlike the the first one I received. Unfortunately it was raining when the box was left at my door so I can’t use it to send it back again. I regret not listening to the reviews of others. These cabinets are not appropriately packaged for shipping.10/8/20- The cabinet was just delivered. The box looks okay but the bottom drawer is so badly dented it cannot be opened. I am very disappointed. Poor quality control. I have requested a replacement and will be returning this one. I will update my rating if the replacement is in good condition.

Before purchasing this file cabinet I checked other Amazon reviews. I’m glad I did. This one seem to be one of the best reviewed for the price. This cabinet is for home office use. For these purposes it is more than sufficient. It seems fairly well made and works as it should. My only issue was with the condition in which it arrived. The box appeared to have already been opened. After pulling it out, some parts of the cabinet had been dented. But after getting in touch with the seller, a replacement was sent without a problem.
