It took me a whiles but I finally figured out why both my thermometers always - always! - showed 65 degrees. The vendor pastes a little clear piece of plastic on the read-out window, is why. The instructions give you no warning. Geesh.

I have their pH gauge, which is sketchy at best, until I can verify its accuracy, but this thermometer works well. I use it for soil temps in order to time the planting of garden vegetable seeds. It’s accurate and gives a good reading within a few seconds of sitting in the soil. None of their gauges are very easy to read. You need to remember to insert them at a steep angle so you can see the numbers easily and clearly. The display is not illuminated at all, so getting the correct light balance in order to read the numbers is a hassle. But it isn’t a dealbreaker. It’s priced decently and does the job.

Happy this works good for monitoring my seedlings and plants while I have them on a heating pad.

Worked perfectly the first two times. Quick read and seemed to be accurate. It broke on the third day. As I pressed it into the ground, the shaft retracted into the thermometer unit and immediately stopped reading the temp. Everything inside just fell apart. It was cheap. What do you expect? Don't buy unless you're going to be measuring the temperature of soft potting soil. I'll just buy another product.

For the money I wasn't expecting too much, but I was really disappointed to find it doesn't handle even the slightest drop of water (in this particular case a very light shower). However, after drying out it still worked, which was a surprise. On the plus side it's quick and easy to use. If you haven't heard of Fahrenheit now's the time to brush up because it's manufactured for the US market where no one comprehends Celsius. And if your soil gets above 100F (37.8C in 21st Century language) you might consider buying a different device.

Received product in a timely manner - 8/14Tested the thermometer in several window beds, and found very accurate readings. From air to soil the needle was extremely sensitive to the temperature change. Currently we are in the middle of August and the weather is quite warm. My soil is a few degrees cooler than the air. I immediately saw a temperature raise when I pulled the needle from the soil.At $15 I would recommend this product to all home gardeners. As always with these kinds of instruments "Care and Cleaning" is a must to maintain a good product. If you read other reviews with negative remarks - then please keep in mind how one handles a product will reflect it's performance.

I am a golf course superintendent. I use this to take soil temps to determine when to spray certain chemicals such as pre-emergent crabgrass herbicides. This little guy is easier to read than most soil thermometers. Give it about 10 seconds to stabilize and record your temp. Consistent with other soil thermometers I have used. For the price its a great buy.Only negative would be that it feels a little flimsy. The plastic shell that holds the components isn't the most rugged but if you take care of it it should last a while.
