I love that this thing doesn't need any batteries. Why it's so pricey, I'm not sure. I'm sure you could make one or buy a magnet that has the north/south marked and use that...but it's about the same price. Very happy with this purchase.

Wow, this is probably one of the simplest devices I've ever used. Just point the tip of the Pole Tester to the pole of the magnet and it gives you either a "N" or an "S" in the window indicating what magnetic pole you are pointing to. Best of all, no batteries ever! And I don't have to decipher any Red or Green lights and having to remove batteries if not used for any length of time. Nice product at a reasonable price, definitely worth it.
