I use this dust collector adapter on my Makita RD1101 D-handle router. I am fortunate that I received a nice screw and it fits an a variable diameter on my Fein Turbo Dust Collector. I like the design of this attachment, especially how it attaches to the router. It's only design flaw is that it does not effectively collect sawdust if one begins routing off the edge of the work piece. Oh, it's also overpriced.

Works as intended. I still get airborne sawdust during router operation but not as much as before. A bigger dust collector system might improve my results but I'm not sure you can get 100% with something like this.

I build custom guitars for clients all over the world and I just purchased my new Makita RP2301FC Router and so far I Love it!!!! only problem was i wanted to us it with a dust collection or shop vac system to avoid the usual tons of router dust/chips...i looked everywhere and read all i could to find a simple dust hood connection for this new router but as you probably found out like i did there really is no dust nozzle for this router and many others...so i ended up buying the model #193379-7 (RD/RF/RP 1100/1101) nozzel off amazon hoping i could make it work, after receiving it with no instructions i figured out how it's supposed to work however it would never stay in place...so after some thought i figured out how to modify and correct it to fit perfectly and work 100%, i actually had to cut 2-tiny notches in the nozzle and then used weld-on acrylic cement i had and actually welded the plastic to the original chip shield, i then cut 3-different pieces of clear acrylic from a sheet i had sitting around in my shop, after making 2-templates and then cutting the acrylic to fit any air vac loss areas i used weld-on cement to attach them to the original chip shield too, i then hooked it up to a small bucket head home depot shop vac and tried it out.....AMAZING!!!!!! IT WORKS 100%, NOT ONE SINGLE PIECE OF SAWDUST OR TINY CHIP OR SPLINTER OF WOOD ESCAPED THIS SYSTEM AND IT'S ROCK SOLID!!!!! so if anyone needs to see a pic or video of how i figured this out please feel free to contact me directly at: mike@blackdiamondcustomguitarshop.com i will gladly help you all i can! :)ThanksMike :)GOD Bless!

Dust is bad and you would think that in this day and age of product liability lawsuits the woodworking industry would be more clued in on this and design their products to include basic safety features such as effective dust collection. Instead they expect you to shell out yet more money to buy this adapter or run the health risks associated with breathing wood dust. Makita are hardly the only company to fail in this respect and having worked in other consumer industries I'm always amazed the woodworking industry doesn't experience more product liability lawsuits.Wouldn't be so bad if the adapter was complete but it's not. You need to provide your own screw which is downright idiotic on the part of Makita. Let me get this straight: this adapter is designed for Makita routers and ONLY Makita routers yet Makita can't include the screw required to attach the Makita dust nozzle to the Makita router base? WTF??? Somewhere a village is missing an idiot because said idiot is employed as a product manager at Makita. Fortunately, Makita include clear documentation so you'll know exactly what size screw...HA, just kidding. This item ships in a ziploc baggie with no documentation whatsoever. You're on your own to figure it out - hey, that's all part of the fun of woodworking! Again, I'm surprised this could even happen - using this base without a screw securing it the router base could end badly and since Makita provides neither the screw nor proper documentation/safety warnings I'm sure a lawyer could have a field day if someone were to injure themselves using this part.So now that you've bought and (and likely had to cut down) a screw you think it would be smooth sailing from here on out, right? WRONG. The port your supposed to attach a hose to doesn't fit the standard 2 1/2" shop vac hose we all own nor does it fit the 1" ID hose used on many hand-held power tools. OK, Makita are a Japanese company so they use the metric system - fair enough. So I tried the 35mm hose I used on my Bosch sander - nope. I also tried the step down universal Shop-Vac adapter and it too doesn't really fit. The second step - 1 1/4" is very close but still so loose that you'll need to tape to keep the hose attached. Unfortunately, that's best I could find that would fit.Once you're finally over these headaches it does do a reasonably decent job of keeping dust down - on par with dust nozzles I've used on other router. I just think that for the money it should:1) Include all the parts needed to install - considering this part costs more than the comparable part for a Festool router this is simply inexcusable. Anytime you charge more than Festool you damn well need to deliver a quality product!2) Include some documentation (also worth noting this part isn't even listed on the Makita USA site)3) Fit industry standard hoses/adapters.All in all, I now have a very negative impression of Makita woodworking tools. Everything about this product is downright sloppy. The product manager at Makita really needs to fix this.

Wood dust is not only an irritant; it's a health hazard. That's why I was thrilled to see this dust nozzle being offered after months of unavailability. This dust nozzle fits perfectly in the fixed and plunge bases of my RF1101 router kit, however it does require a mounting screw which was not provided with the nozzle nor with my router kit.Specs:The dust hose connection is just a hair bigger than 1 716" OD and 1 9/32" ID. The actual dust opening diameter around the bit is 2" at the base and 1 9/16" at the top, something to note if being used with a plunge base.I cannot attest to its effectiveness at this time, as I need to find an adapter to connect it to my shop vac hose. I however have confidence that it will significantly reduce the amount of fine dust flying around during my hand held routing tasks, and it should reduce the amount of plugging that occurs when routing mortises.4 out of 5 stars given due to missing mounting screw.Update (03/08/2013) Because I've not found a good adapter or hose to attach this to my shop vac, I've ended up leaving it off my router most of the time. If I were working inside the house where dust migration was an issue, I'd go to the effort of setting it up, but it's just easier to use a dust mask and cleanup the shop later with the shop vac. Downgrading to 3 stars.
