Durable backing pad. I don't understand why it didn't come with a mounting nut.

It's sort of ridiculous when you call up the company asking for which pad will actually fit on the several Makita grinders I have now, and they don't even know. They just referred me to their website which was of no help, because the specs were wrong and now I have two of these things that won't fit right. I own about 10 disk grinders, and I use them all the time, and I really don't appreciate the crappy apathetic customer service from a company I have supported for so many years.

Be careful of the pad edges. The high rpm of the Makita grinder will really mess up the edges of the pad if you happen to bump it against anything. This pad is for flat grinding or sanding only. I was sanding off surface rust on angle iron near a weld and some rough weld slag caught the edge of the pad and it put a couple of nasty gouges in the pad edge. Rookie move on my part. To the pads credit it held together really well and did not come apart even the the grinder was at full RPM.

This pad with the lock nut fit the Makita angle grinder nicely. The pad's center hole on the grinding side, where the lock nut goes on, has a recess that matches the nut's flange that has the four locking holes. Some sand papers' center hole are not slitted, resulting the nut protrudes the thickness of the nut flange. This is a simple fix by slitting the center hole of the sand papers 3-4 places just like the other ones you saw pre-slitted. Still holding the sand papers nicely in place. This is a Makita sanding pad for the 4 /12" grinder. It is genuine Makita, and great quality. The Amazon price is lowest I found. I installed this on my grinder. It requires the Makita 193048-0 5/8" lock nut, also sold on Amazon, if you don't already have the lock nut.

Good backing plate for using a right angle grinder as a disc sander. This pad is a well made & Makita quality & much better than the Diablo brand sold at Home Depot.
