I guess makita calls this a 3/4 inch drill because it's rated to drill up to a 3/4 inch hole in concrete. Not because it can receive a 3/4 bit. It may very well drill a hole that big but only if you have a reduced shank bit. The chuck on this drill is only 1/2 inch.

Makita is a very traditional brand that makes high quality tools, but this one is refurbished, it works with a strange noise that indicates it will have a very short life so I returned it the exact same day I tested it. Buy a new one at Home Depot - full guaranty - for a few more dollars.-

it started to smoke and.. couldn't drill on the concrete. the bit holder should not be spinning but it was spinning too.
