It's a really nice solid stand. My only concern is the fixation of the 'desk' to the stand which is difficult to assure not 'going too far' and arriving back at 'unlocked'. Very light and manageable.

The only complaint I have is that I need 2 hands to raise the desk. The post just sits in the legs so slides right out of you don't hold it down as you raise and lower it. Other than that it's as sturdy and reliable as you'd expect from any Manhasset stand. I exhaustingly tried many brands to replace my Nilton (which I wasn't super happy with to begin with) for gigs. Portability and ease of setup/breakdown will never match a wire stand but a wire stand can't hold a binder of pit music like this stand. The desk is one piece, the post is long, the feet fold in; this stand is cumbersome to carry around. The reliability and quality make up for it in my opinion.

Although still not a lightweight stand, the Manhasset Voyager is much lighter than my standard Manhasset stand, and because it folds up, is much easier to transport. Like the standard model, it is sturdy and stable, and has a solid desk (required by one of the orchestras I play in), to which I can attach my stand light.

This product gets 2 stars because It is made out of quality materials in stable. But it is one of the worst designed music stands I've ever run across. I'm relatively new to playing instruments so I don't have a lot of experience with music stands and I don't know the names of all the parts, but I play an instrument I've used one enoughTo know this stand is crap.Chief complaints1) To tilt the actual music stand forwards or backwards you need a pair of wrenches because they Used A bolt locking nut into big washers which look like they came from Lowe's. Although it is tight right now it will loosen up over time. Why didn't they just put a wing nut?2) When extending or retracting the stand vertically there doesn't seem to be any lock. It is held by tension which will loosen over time.

I was a little worried about how expensive this was and wondering if it was worth the portability feature. I am so thrilled I got this! It was perfect for my outdoor concert. I kept the legs wide, and I cold hold onto the base with my foot when the wind was breezy so my stand would not fall over. It is super easy to raise up, which is exactly what I needed for my piccolo solo in Stars and Stripes Forever. I tried transporting it in my Hamilton travel case, but realized the base is a bit long. I think it may be worth the investment to get the bag for this. Stand cases make it way easier for transport and help keep it from getting damaged. I was surprised it is so much lighter in weight compared to my Hamilton stand, which I've absolutely loved for years, but I wanted to non knob feature for being able to raise my stand for a standing height. The only thing I was surprised was it needed slight assembly of using a socket wrench, of which I did not have one, so I had to bring it to a friend to help me assemble.

I researched portable stands for hours and finally took the plunge on the Manhasset Voyager because I use and love their standard #48 stand. The Voyager is exactly the same stand, except for the tripod base and easily detachable desk. No knobs to fiddle with, and super sturdy steel and aluminum construction. It really looks and feels like it will last indefinitely. Note to tall players, at maximum height, it does end up about 2'' shorter than the #48. I measured the Voyager at 48'' from lip to floor. My #48 is 49-3/4'' from lip to floor. Unlike other reviewers, I had no problem at all operating the quick-release device that is used to detach the desk from the stand. It's actually a pretty cool design. Rotate 1/4 turn counter-clockwise (as you look at the stand from above) and it loosens enough that you can slide the desk off. Rotate clockwise 1/4 turn and it's tight. If you are adjusting the stand to it's maximum height, you do have to be careful and make sure you are pulling on the chrome tube, not the desk. Otherwise, it could pop off when it abruptly hits the top of it's travel. But it's good practice to grab the chrome post for adjustments anyway, even with the standard stand (less stress on the polymer connector between post and desk). I did have to wipe a little grease off the chrome with a paper towel. After that, no problem with grease. There is also no problem stepping on the base so you can adjust the height--it's more than sturdy enough. When open, it is even wider than the standard #48, so it's very stable. For some odd reason, the photo shows it in a kind of in between position, not fully open. Note on collapsing and carrying the stand: You can buy a bag and put the base and desk into it as two pieces, but I find it easiest to simply leave the desk on, but invert it (with the angle adjustment) so the stand is a bit shorter, then collapse the tripod base and carry it all in one piece, either by holding the stem (carrying the stand horizontally), or by cradling the desk under your arm (carrying the stand vertically). Then you don't need to buy or deal with a bag. This works well for me because I have storage in my violin case for books. If you need book storage, though, you may want to get the tote bag. Unless you are very tall, I see no problem using this as your everyday stand at home. It is pretty much the equivalent of the #48, but includes no-mar plastic feet, which you have to buy separately on the #48 if you have wood floors. All in all, very happy with the purchase. If anything changes, I will update this review. I know from experience that shopping for collapsible music stands is a confusing nightmare, and hope this review makes it easier for people to evaluate one of the many, many choices.

Très solide, bien large, parfait! On peut facilement mettre 3 feuilles dessus. Dommage qu'il ne se plie pas complètement comme un pupitre pliant mais on ne peut pas tout avoir!

I bought this stand because I am always working with 3" notebooks of music for the groups I play with. My other folding stands were light and the desk wobbled under that weight (not surprising). This stand is dead stable - like their standard orchestra models. It also has the advantage of the solid desk, which looks more professional on-stage. One of my groups likes to drape scarves down the desk to give a more unified, finished look. You can do this with the Voyager. It also fits the Manhasset accessory tray and pencil tray, which are very convenient for me, as I play multiple small instruments. The stand is relatively heavy for traveling - which is a tradeoff with it being solid. You can't have both. What is more problematic is that 28" for the stand is LONG. Carrying the desk isn't that bad. I wound up not buying their case, but getting a bag that held the desk (plus my music, plus my recorder cases) and strapping the 28" long pole onto the outside of it. It kept things neater and easier to travel with. Your mileage may vary.I am very pleased with the purchase for bringing to gigs and also to rehearsals. It is a perfect for a home stand, because it can be folded up when you don't need it. If you're thinking about a home stand and going back and forth between this and a non-folding orchestra stand, I'd definitely buy this one. If I was doing serious long walking with it, I'd use a stand with a folding desk.
