If needed, use a little olive oil to lubricate the pump tube.
If it does not smooth enough for lack of lubricant, adding some lubricant on the inner side of the pump wall will help, for example, olive oil or other edible oil.

The body of the pump has a nice fat foam grip all the way around, like a foam beer-can cozy. The pump stands 16" tall overall when closed. The piston has about 8¾" of stroke length. Included is a 23" corrugated hose, 1" diameter, with a straight end that fits onto the barbed output of the pump. The inlet is also barbed, ¾" ID and 1¼" OD, with crenellations 5/32" deep allowing it to suck down to that depth of water. The inlet has a rubber flapper valve inside.The pump moves water very effectively and easily. Easy to push and pull, and a good quantity of water comes out with each stroke.

This handy compact lightweight pump is ideal for its intended purpose as a bilge pump, a job it does very well with a large capacity per stroke and its completely non-corrosive, all plastic parts.Primarily intended for small personal watercraft that often must be hand carried to the water, this light, but high capacity, pump won’t add appreciably to your burden. Additionally, the ability to switch the included hose to the suction or discharge side as needed makes it nicely versatile.But, its usefulness does not end there, in my opinion. It is ideal for many emergency household tasks, like emptying a stalled washing machine, draining a clogged sink, or a flooded sprinkler box.It moves plenty of water per stroke making most jobs quick and easy. The soft foam outer cover makes it comfortable to grip and the big handle loop fits my hand amply. I think this is a bargain accessory to your household and boating toolbox.

I like that it was lightweight and had foam flotation and the yellow color but it performed so poorly I had to return it and decided against getting a replacement. It needs a strainer or removable debris filter and a better valve system that fully closes when expelling water out the hose, not back into the boat.
