Low quality tool to match the super low price. Various size blocks are useful. Versatile tool. Ised it on a couple projects and I think it will be great for someone like me that only needs it occasionally.

Bought this tool to make a bunch of "S" hooks for a display. In a couple of minutes, I was cranking them right out, using very heavy wire.

With a nice assortment of dies that don't seem to be present with similar benders, this is a nice small-time bender for hobbyists that work with thinner metals. It does a fine job of making simple angles and loops in heavy gauge wire and thinner flat bar. It struggles a bit with 1/8th inch thick steel bar and produces a bend that splays out slightly from one side to the next. This is partially due to the loose tolerances in the manufacture of the bender. The product description claims that the bender will offer 'sharp angles' and this is not really the case. Your material will have some kind of radius to the bend, depending on what die or pin is used and the type and thickness of material to be bent. Both of the little angle blocks included with this model offer the same angles, so it is unclear as to why two of them are included. The description also claims the unit will bend tubing, and this is not really possible with the included dies, unless you want a bend that collapses/kinks the tubing. There are dedicated tubing benders out there. This is not one of them. The manufacture of this bender is a little on the rough side. There are sanding/grinding/welding marks clearly visible under the surface treatment and the unit's sloppy construction prevent the series of stop-holes along the base from being usable with the provided pin. The unit ships in a respectable amount of padding and in a factory branded corrugate box. There is a generous amount of grease or oil present to inhibit rust, which you will have to wipe away from every little pin, die, block, lever, etc.The instructions provided are vague, and a list of replacement parts is included in the four-page manual, but good luck ordering those. For the price asked, I think you will find yourself buying a new bender, should you lose any of the components. Do yourself a favor and scrub through youtube university for "mini-bender" to get a better idea of what can (and cannot) be made.

Some if the parts were poorly finished and it took a bit of time and a belt grinder to get them properly fit.Once they fit properly the performance was very reasonable. My only remaining concern is that the bending posts aren't high enough quality to remain useful for more than a few hundred eye loops. I should be able to make new ones though if it's an issue.

The first time I used it, I wanted to bend 3mm piano wire round the smallest of the posts provided. I was able to bend the wire with no problem, but I also bent the post. The ease with which I could bend the post back into shape demonstrated that it was pretty soft steel. In the photo I already bent it back almost straight. The posts should be REALLY hard to resist bending. Something like gun metal, I suppose. This post (see photo) is going to be least resistant to bending, being the thinnest one in the set, and it did bend.Setting it up is a little tricky. Obviously, you want the wire you are bending to be as low on the post as possible, so the post has the least leverage to get bent. There's a screw (for which you need a 4mm Allen key, not provided), which allows you to adjust the height of the post. You can see it in the photo on the side of the unit, below the post. This is not mentioned in the instructions. You need to adjust the height so that the vice (right in the picture) clears the base of the post, but only just. The instructions are typical chinese-written instructions where, having figured it all out, you can then tell what they meant when they wrote the instructions. All in all it works well. Just be careful to set it up to minimize the bending force on the posts.

I've been using this Winmax bender in my shop for a couple of weeks and have been very pleased with it. I've found it to be a very handy little tool at an excellent price. Based on my experience here are a few suggestions:1. Other reviews mention adding a brass washer under the handle rotation point to remove the "slop" in the handle. This is very good advice. Without the washer your bends will tend to have a twist. This is an easy to fix. Get a 1" diameter brass washer with a 0.5" hole and sand the thickness down in increments until it fits snugly under the handle. My bender needed a washer about 1mm thick to take up the handle play.2. Be sure to only seat the small diameter shafts (5 and 6mm) flush with the top of the die holder. The shafts will extend down further, but you want to only apply bending pressure against the base of the thin shaft, if you go higher you'll risk bending the shaft.3. Don't forget to tighten the shaft into place using a 4mm Allen wrench.4. Go on youtube and search for "mini bender" and watch the videos prior to use. This will help.5. Clamp the bottom of the bender in your bench vice when using it. You want a solid mount.Overall I'm quite pleased with this little bender, especially for the price. I would also like to add that I had an issue and contacted WINMAX through Amazon and received a prompt response back and they solved my problem. Excellent customer support!I would heartily recommend this tool and would buy it again.
