If your unit is not wanting to close properly and you verified that the dog ear is still in place on the drive belt then this little sensor is most likely the issue. I have replaced this twice now on the same unit and I am getting around 5 years of use before it fails. The irony is that I have dual openings, so two units, and on the other one I have never had to replace it but the dog ear on that unit had its dog ear come off the drive belt and the symptoms are very similar.

Marantec codes are not always correct. If it says you need this part check for your position tab first. Marantec sent me a bag of them for shipping costs only. This is a common error but if this tab falls off the garage codes will say you need this part. If your garage door closes too much then pops open (then opens beyond where it should) and setting limits does not fix the issue you likely need a positioning tab and not this. Even though the garage door error code will point to this part. I returned the product thanks to other reviewers who had the same issue as me. I’m sure it works as intended if it’s really what you need.

On Marantec 4500e opener: connection end is connected to pc board. Cut that zip tie holding it in place. Pull that black plug with 6 wires, slid out the 4 wire section. Replace it with the new part. Plug back into board. Put board back but thread in the new zip tie first. Trace end of old sensor... note the screw is on the black wired side of sensor. Remove and place new sensor. Put screw back. Plug back in test opener. Replace cover. Done. Have a head lamp...

Got here fast. Very simple part cost too much. Yet to see if it works.

Randomly my Marantec 4500 garage door opener light started blinking right as the door was almost completely open. It seemed like it was struggling at that last part then stopping and blinking the light. At first I figured maybe the heat of the Texas summer caused an issue so I re-adjusted everything and there was no issue with the opener getting the door all the way to the top when adjusting, it only had an issue when running it. I could help the door along, pushing it at that last part when opening and it’d be totally fine. I even increased the up force to the max and it still struggled at that last part. I read the manual and it said the code meant this part was the issue, so I ordered it. After replacing this sensor, it was still doing the exact same thing.I don’t want to rate this product low because it was exactly as described, came quickly, and functioned perfectly. It just wasn’t the root cause. For anyone else having this same issue where their Marantec 4500 has trouble at the very end of either closing or opening, check the large capacitor on the circuit board to see if the end of it isn’t perfectly flat or is slightly bulging. I was able to grab a 10-pack of 2200uF 35v capacitors here on Amazon for about $8 and replaced the large capacitor on the circuit board. After doing so, it was working perfectly. And now I’ve got some on hand in case this happens to the other opener. 😉

I had the same problem where the door will close to the bottom and bounce back as if there was an obstruction. There was not. The optical sensor was aligned and functional too. All the adjustment using the onboard buttons did not work and only added to my frustration. I got a local garage service guy to come but he refused to support Marantec based on its bad reputation. He pointed me to replacing the RPM and/or circuit board myself. I opted to replace both instead of fussing and wasting more time on this. In the end I can't tell you for sure if the RPM sensor alone needed replacement or the whole thing. The RPM sensor was easy to replace. The circuit board itself is not laid out the same as the 10-year old original. I took pictures of the connections before, and followed the circuit diagram on the new part. it worked the first try, but honestly I thought the wiring diagram should have been a picture of the board layout with terminals clearly labeled. It definitely could have been more user friendly and clear. I'll attach a picture of it here. The parts, 5 stars because they fixed my pesky problem. Manrantec, 1 star, because they all seem to die mysteriously at the 10 year mark based on what I read. Unhappy with the product itself.

The error code indicated that the RPM sensor was causing the problem of autoreversing of the garage door. As suggested by the manual, I purchased this sensor and replaced the old one. No changes. The garage door still reverses when it is close to the ground. I rate this product 1 star not because it is low quality. Rather, I just want to point out that Marantec did a very poor job in writing the trouble shooting instructions.
