I tried using these for a marimba class, and they were too hard and risked breaking the keys. I wouldn’t recommend, but may be worth retrofitting into a kick beater

As a percussionist with the local symphony orchestra, I was very interested in trying these mallets. At first look, the winding of the yarn on the mallet head is very different from the common brands, as well as the color being very cool, almost iridescent in its look. As for the handles, I am not sure of the type of wood, though it does appear to have been stained a dark birch-like color. I do want to note that the handles are longer than a typical Musser or Mike Balter mallet ( just an 1" or so longer).I did use them at an orchestra rehearsal for doing cymbal rolls and swells, which these mallets performed very well. Though longer handles, they are easy to balance within ones grip. My fellow percussionists were impressed with these mallets as well, especially the color of the yarn. Though not tried out on any mallets instruments for any great length of time, the mallets seem to be a medium hardness, as when playing a marimba or vibraphone, you can hear a bit of the mallet ball making contact with the bars.Overall, very nice and different from the common brands.

I keep a bunch of percussion instruments around the studio for recording purposes, and these mallets are a welcome addition to the sound palette! I haven't used them on a proper mallet instrument, but for cymbal work or various accessory implements they work like a charm. They seem decent enough for multi-mallet technique or fast vibes work; at this price, there's really no reason not to give them a try!

I got these mallets to add to my collection of percussion instruments. I don't have a marimba but these are handy for my other percussion instruments like cymbals and cajons. They are larger than the other mallets I have. I'm glad I found these to expand my range of sounds.

Good mallets for a hobbyist. I can't pretend I'm a professional mallet percussionist, so I'll compare them to Promark's Diversity series. The length, diameter and pliability of the stick are similar and feel sturdy. I didn't notice any issue with one stick having more flexibility than the other, which can be distracting. The mallets are hard, as described - hard enough to get a decent sound out of a glockenspiel. I like the darker stick wood with the blue yarn, it's an attractive pair of mallets!

I like the extra long "handles" on these mallets. They give you plenty of room to hang on and allow you to balance them in your hand so they'll feel comfortable and responsive. The winding around the head is nice and tight so they should hold up to a lot of use without becoming unwound. The finish on the handles isn't so slick that they'll slide out of your hand. They're a little thin to me but are not hard to hang on to while you're playing with them.the most important part those is the tone. With the tight winding on the mallet heads these are hard enough to geet a good tone but soft enough that you don't get any kind of acoustic "click" from the heads when you strike with them. I was really pleased with the tone when I used them.Good set of mallets for the price and they seem well made enough to hold up to quite a bit of use.

As a drummer, I'm always on the lookout for all sorts of percussion items and playing tools. After playing with them for a bit, I would say these are "medium-hard" mallets, limited by their slightly slim and somewhat (although not marked,) wobbly sticks.I have tightly wound thread mallets, with a head similar to this, but placed on a drumstick type stem (probably 5A,) and they feel more definitive and solid. These will work great for more orchestral drum set work and cymbal swells, and will likely be fine for marimba.
