Don’t waste your time or money. Doesn’t fit a g-body as described. Absolute garbage.

Heat it up and collapse it to length. 95-96 Xjs are 5/8-3/4 inch shorter. Pull the column and keep it straight.. 45 minute job.

I got this to replace the old steering shaft with a rag joint on a 1991 S10 Blazer. I drilled out the spot welds on the shaft with a 1/4" drill bit, then separated the two halves. I cut off 6" total from the interior (solid) shaft, as the total length of the original S10 shaft was only 18.5". This leaves a bit of extra room to slide it into place and for the shaft to collapse in an accident. Then I drilled a hole through the center of the coupler for the steering wheel side with a 13/32" drill bit to accept the through-bolt from the original shaft. I cut corners into one side with a small carbide burr to accept the square carriage bolt-style head of the original bolt.Do make sure to really crank down the steering box coupler before rotating the shaft for access to the nut on the steering wheel side. I just snugged mine down at first, and the steering box gear spun inside the shaft. Fortunately, I could line it back up easily enough, but that could be a problem if you did not notice it happen.

Quality looks great - bought for a Buick Roadmaster B Body to improve steering, have not used it yet but will install over the winter. Can use on a Caprice or Impala as well to tighten steering input

Description says it fits 1984-1994 Jeep Cherokee. I have a 1995 Cherokee XJ with a build month of 05/1995 and this was the correct part.As other reviewers mention, the rod needs to be heated to get it to the desired length. I lined the new shaft up along side the original and measured. I found that in my case the new shaft was 3/4" too long. I scratched a mark on the smaller section near the center that was 3/4" from where the two parts meet. I used one of those small green propane bottles from the camping store along with a BERNZOMATIC 336737 torch on it to do the heating. Once heated, I used a shop press to push the two halves together until the 3/4" mark made it to where the two halves meet. You don't necessarily need a shop press, though. Once heated up, you can just put your weight on it and it'll collapse slowly. Just make sure you don't go too far in because its probably harder to expand it than it is to collapse it. I'd advise to wear gloves so you don't accidentally touch the heated area and burn yourself.

Man imma first timer! Way over thinking the column and shaft. But I went with it based on reviews and videos and it was 5th grader stuff. Fits perfectly, didn't have to modify nothing. Very easy and solid steel. Wow, you guys are really making me feel my Oates here! Thanks so much for making it easy and affordable on an old dude! 👍
