MaxTool UNC and UNF uncoated high speed steel 3-piece hand thread tap sets, which include taper, plug, and bottom chamfers, have straight flutes and round shanks with square driver. They are used to create right hand threads in a range of materials. It is available in two different ANSI standards: UNC (Unified Coarse) and UNF (Unified Fine). The premium high speed steel material provides long tool life. The straight flutes are suitable for threading through holes and blind or bottoming holes.

I've been very impressed with the wire gauge drill bits from MaxTool and a hole saw - they seem to put out excellent quality tooling. With cutting tools I most often just pay the premium for domestic USA made tools but MaxTool has really left me with a favorable opinion over the last few years. These taps follow that trend. They're very well ground and finished and cut like a dream, nice threads produced. If I had one small quibble it would be that the ends are square cut with no dimple for a tap follower. M10 may be a bit large for hand tapping in a press but it's nice to have that nipple/dimple on a tap for use with a follower. Markings seem like a light laser etching...I don't plan to let these rust but if they do I'm not sure that etching would remain very visible.I put the starting and bottom tap to use right away in some soft aluminum and the threads were really nice throughout (blind hole). Played a little with scrap brass and some mild steel...they did great. Not sure how these would hold up over lots of use compared to other professional industrial tooling but they really seem great and the price is great as well. I'll probably pick up some more sizes of these. Good storage case as well.

I bought these to clean out some old threads on on a set of lathe chuck jaws. The taps did the job. I did not use them to tap a new thread, so I can not comment on how they performed in that way, which is why I gave it 4 stars. I am satisfied with them none the less.
