This is a good varnish if you plan on using it quickly. It does not store well and this does not make it a great value for me. I recommend thinning.

As others stated, the satin is still super glossy. I did find this easy to apply to my door. I had stripped the paint, sanded, and gel stained it prior to application. I applied 3 coats with minimal sanding between coats and 24 hour dry time between. It came out better than I hoped with less work than I anticipated.

I use this on my 100 year old front doors. I think the last coat lasted about 4-5 years before it got too dirty looking. A light sanding and a couple of coats and its looking great again. It can run a bit after a few minutes, so go lightly and look back after a couple of minutes .For "Satin" this is very glossy. I noticed this the last time i used it and that hasn't changed. Watch out for streaks.Don't use a foam brush, because that will exacerbate these problems

I have been using this product for about 4 years now on upright hemlock logs holding up our front porch and on hemlock benches on the porch that store our firewood. This porch face south and faces directly into the prevailing weather, which in the Smokey Mountains can be quite tough. We have averaged over the past four years about 70" of rain a year. In addition, it is not uncommon to have 40 to 50 degree swings in the temperature in a single day. So it could be 20 in the morning and 65 in the late after noon. The sun is intense and brutally hot in the summers. McCloskey's lasts two to three times longer than anything I have tried to date. I do a lot of preparation of the wood before I add the coats and sand between them, but two to three coats can last me two to three years under those harsh conditions. Most everything I had tried before needed redoing every year. It is expensive at the outset but you will appreciate its longevity as the costs even out.

I use this to cover epoxy in outdoor applications. I don't like it as much as Epifanes which I use on my most high quality work. But for rugged applications this works well.

I live in the high desert. The front of my house faces west. The afternoon sun is brutal on everything, especially my front wooden door. We moved into the house when it was brand new. After about 2 years the door was looking, let's just say, not new anymore. Someone told me about marine varnish used on boats. I found this product at a local paint store and tried it. It worked great. 2 years later it still looked good but I could see some signs of fading. So, I did it again. I did this every 2 years until I ran out of varnish. I went to by some more. They didn't have them same brand, McCluskey. I bought another brand. Big mistake. I noticed right away it was thinner. The other brand (minwax) didn't hold up to the elements. I wish I had pictures, but I'm technically challenged. All I can say is I'm glad I found McCloskey on Amazon. Two years later and the door looks great again. There are people in my neighborhood who have had to completely re-store their door, re-stain and all that. Mine looks great with using this varnish every 2 or 3 years and it's 16 years old. Same finish. I gave it 3 stars for easy to use and easy to clean only because you have to use mineral spirits to clean with, and when applying be careful of runs if you use to much. Best to put on a light coat, let dry and do it again. Great product!

I have used this product before. Holds up well to the elements. Outside you may get 3-7 years out of it depending on the conditions, compared to 2-3 years with polyurethane products. Used on my wooden porch posts. That said it will yellow over time and eventually peel. The trick is lightly sand and re coat every 3 years or so, but if you are like me you wait too long, and end up having to sand back down to wood because the finish is too damaged. For raw wood I thinned 20% for the first two coats. Sanded lightly between coats. Make sure it is good and dry between coats to sand or you will be starting over. I did four coats total. It is shinny, does not look like Satin like it says on the can. But the shininess will make it last longer, and it will dull over time so I am going to live with it. It is very toxic smelling so you should wear a respirator if you can. Took about a week for it to cure enough for the smell to go away.
