The four LED’s provide superior color rendition to the old incandescent bulb. Still has a glass lens providing a 3X magnification of the image and the quick eject button that allows the slides to stack in the collection tray. Uses 4 “AA” batteries (included in the bundle). Will accept a 6V 500 mA AC adapter (not included). Please note: the 2x2 slides need to be inserted on the back of the viewer, see third product image

We had a 1950's model of this same product that died of corrosion. It was a battery eater. This new LED light seem is brighter than incandescent. We've been using it to view hundreds of our old slides (collections) and the battery is still full charged. I am pleased with my purchase. No complaints.

The viewer was very well packaged. In fact it was delivered in three boxes, one packed into another. This first to hold the viewer, the second to add the batteries and the microfiber cloth and the third to protect everything. The battery compartment door is easy to remove to insert the four AA batteries. The electrical connections for the batteries are of the folded plate type which is a bit cheap at this price point. The more durable coil spring type would have been preferred. The catch for the battery lid is very marginal and does not inspire confidence that it will hold. The switch for the backlight is a toggle switch allowing the backlight to stay on when viewing slides. The LED backlight is bright and fills the view with even white light. The glass lens is clear and there is only a slight pin cushion distortion visible, but is does not bother normal viewing. Using a rudimentary method to measure the magnification it came out to be about 3.2 times. The lens had some smudges and dust on it which was easily removed with the included microfiber cloth. The output aperture of the lens provides enough even light to preview the slide before sliding it into the slot, which is a bonus. The slides are best viewed with the viewer placed on a flat surface. The slides easily fit into the slot. I have tested paper frame, plastic frame as well as slides mounted between two pieces of glass. As others have mentioned there is a tendency for slides to get stuck when attempting to release them. This is mainly true for paper framed slides where the relative sharp corners of slide get stuck into the ribbed guide. This is significantly less of a problem for plastic framed slides with their rounded corners.Depending on the thickness of the slide mounts the tray at the bottom can hold up to ten slides before the next slide will not be able to slide through. I have also found that paper slides get stuck on the slide below preventing them from lying flat. This is solved by placing an object about 3/8 of an inch at the back of the tray allowing the slide at the bottom to lie at an angle.A strip of film also fits nicely in the slots provided. One should take care not to scratch the film when sliding it through (always wear cotton gloves when handling film.)Due to the open slots at the top dust can accumulate on the light diffuser but this is easily solved with a squirt of compressed air. Keep the unit covered when not in use to minimize dust accumulation.I have deducted two stars; one for the cheap battery compartment and one for the sticky slide guide. If this could have been fixed the viewer will get 5 stars

They even provided the batteries....Product works very well.....I use this in concert with a $1000 scanner to determine which slides I want to keep and then convert to digital files via the scanner. They easy feed and drop into a catch holder. Sometimes a slide will get stuck and it is just a matter of a few seconds to shake it out or grap it and pull. Another benefit of this when using a slide scanner is that it helps you determine the correct direction the slide should go into the scanner. So this simple device is perfect for quickly going through the slides to determine the keepers. The screen is bright enough so that you can easily view the slide. I have not used it for film yet....cause my interest was slides but from observation it looks like a no brainer to review some film (negative) strips. Good product and am very pleased.

This product came incredibly well packaged with the promised cleaning cloth and package of batteries. It works great. I purchased for my mom who previously bought 2 similar viewers (online but I don't know from where) that didn't work at all. This one is easy to use. occasionally the slide gets caught and you have turn it over to knock it out, and negatives need to be fairly flat, but nothing really unexpected. We are delighted with this product

Doing a major project editing slides for scanning. Picture quality and lighting is great, does the job. Only negative is that some of the slides jam when being ejected and I have to shake the thing to get the slide out. Nice that the package incuded batteries and cleaning cloth. Would recommend.

I purchased this to go through hundreds of slides to determine what to convert to digital, and not having to haul out the slide projector every time. It works beautifully in that it is bright and the images are very clear. The slides load easily, but the main problem I have is that they tend to get stuck coming out. In many cases, I had to get needle nosed pliers to pull them out, which damages the slides. I did follow one reviewers suggestion to tip the viewer up toward me and this does mostly work, but I would rather not have to do that. Otherwise, I've been able to view a lot of slides with images I had forgotten about. I will keep it - it's good for the price.

I had just inherited boxes of slides from a family member who passed away but unfortunately; I had no way to view them.I found the Desktop Viewer on Amazon for a reasonable price compared to the cost of buying a vintage slide projector. The viewer was larger than I expected which was nice. It was packaged well and came with the 4 AA batteries needed. You do have the option of using an adapter cord but it is not included. Also, there is no order form in the box to purchase one from the manufacturer either but they do give the specifications; AC/DC 6v 500mA.The slides show up nicely on the viewing screen and the LED lights are bright. You place the slide in at the top and after viewing you push the eject button on the side and the slide falls into a tray on the base. You can view around six slides before you need to remove them or they block the slide from coming out. I did experience times when the slide would get stuck inside but it was easily freed by shaking the viewer slightly until it lined up. It can be alarming when it happens initially but it isn't a big deal. Not sure if it was the viewer or if I put the slide in slightly off.The instructions also state the viewer can be used to look at negatives which was good to know.I did view hundreds of slides and the batteries were still going strong. I can not say how long the batteries last before they need replacing but it doesn't burn through them. The viewer worked well for what I needed and it won't take a lot of storage space. It is a good choice if you need a viewer.

Received this product about 1 week ago. My initial observations were that it appeared to be a solid / rugged design. I have tested it with both slides (plastic framed and cardboard framed) and had no issues. I enjoyed the 3x magnification . I found the enter and exit of slides to be relatively easy. I used the light in the locked on position. I will say the force requirement for the exit of the slide is a little too stiff. You cannot do a 1 handed push on the side button without the whole viewer moving sideways. You need your other hand holding the unit in place. The company; should consider the possibility of putting the exit button on top which would be ergonomically easier to use and prevent sliding. The only other issue I had was verifying exactly what light source was used in the unit. I wanted this product because it was described as an LED light source but the included oper. instruction sheet shows a tungsten light bulb as the light source. After some researching and use of unit, I believe it actually is an LED source.Over all I think this unit will serve my purposes well and last a long time.

I just received two of these slide viewers and I am delighted. It can be used on the table top, leaving hands free or it can be hand-held. It is just the right size. It works slightly differently than the smaller hand-held ones which has advantages. Usually, you hold the slide down with your finger for viewing. This turns on the light and you can view the image. This viewer has a button to turn on the light and the slide is dropped into the slot for viewing. This leaves your hands free and also makes it easier for several people to use the viewer at once. When you have finished viewing another button ejects the slide onto the tray below. Very clever and practical. It uses 4 double-A batteries which come with the view, as well as a cleaning cloth. I just thought this was very kind.My husband was an artist and he took thousands of photographs of his work over the 60 years he was working. Hundreds of these images are in slide format. He recently passed away and I am planning a celebration of his work, leaving me to sort through this mountain of slides. I was thinking of having a carousel of slides constantly showing the work but 1) I couldn't get the carousel to work and 2) the lights would need to be off in that room, making it less able to do anything else in that room so I decided to go with hand-held. I bought two other hand-held viewers and when I realized I needed more, I purchased two of these. This product, while slightly different in nature, is a slightly better quality. I am very glad I bought them.
