Doesn't burn as long as I'd like, so if you're using hardwood that doesn't get started easily, you'll have to use a lot of this stuff to get the fire started. I'm currently using it to fuel my duralog starter sticks which are much more effective at starting a fire. So I suppose this product, in combination with duralog starter sticks, is a perfect way to get your fireplace started. In the future, I'll just stick with the starter sticks instead of the gel.

This fire starter works good but the burn time is a little short, need to use on small wood peaces.

I have used hasty bakes product for years and while this is not as thick as hasty bake's it works very well. Flames are actually a little higher. Amazons delivery reliability and prime speed really makes hasty bakes alternative second rate. As with all the ethanol gels I have tried there is no flavor added to the grilled items.

The igniter on my Harman pellet stove failed and I'm using this before the replacement part. I lit the stove using rubbing alcohol before and this gel works much better. This bottle should give me 20 starts easily. If you are going through it too fast maybe you're using too much. Maybe you're starting your fire wrong. Maybe your pellet stove is not well-designed....Lighting a pellet stove can be tricky with the combustion fan going. Done right, you shouldn't need more than 3-4 tablespoons of this stuff. Also don't forget to close the cap after lighting a fire. Sounds like a no-brainer but I've left the cap open a few times in the midst of all that's going on when lighting a stove.

I've used this only twice in two years to restart my pellet stove when the automatic igniter didn't work, but those were bitterly cold nights and it was a back-up I really needed. Firestarter isn't sold at the big box stores near me, and the stove malfunctioned twice on weekend nights when the stove shop wasn't open. I will always have a bottle or two of this handy. My brother-in-law has an older stove (with a broken igniter, perhaps?) and he uses it each time he starts the stove rather than replacing the igniter. That may be penny-wise and pound-foolish, but the gel is dependable and easy to light.

We like this product because it is just the right texture to cling to the kindling. A very small amount does the job. I give it 4 stars because the container clogs very easily. That can be a bit frustrating when you are tired and want to go to bed or are up at the crack of dawn and just want to warm the house. If the people at your house all remember to close the container carefully that won't be a problem for you.
