I enjoyed shooting with the FX Z mount Meike 35/2 so much I ended up ordering the FX Z mount Meike 55/1.8 pro!50-58mm is my favourite focal length, I fell in love with the 55mm focal length with my old FE 55 1.8 ZA (Sony/Zeiss) and this is no exception.I'm not going to put it up against "the image maker" - 50 1.2S - it's 7 times the cost of the 55 1.8.However against the 50 1.8S - in my opinion; the 55 1.8 renders nicer. Not as sharp, but the bokeh - esp foreground bokeh - is much smoother where the 1.8S is rather nervous. The 55 1.8 focuses is fairly quick, close focus is thankfully a standard 55cm, it's very light weight at 360grams, has a manual aperture ring and relative to performance - inexpensiveSample image at 1.8 on a Z9

Wow this is what a lens should be, fast light and clear border to border and focus is fast.

The lens feels well balanced on my A7III and handles well. I like the feel of the knurling a lot and the placement and weight of the mf / af switch works well for me.Autofocus even on my A7III is good, snappy and accurate. Focus breathing is excellent and the manual focus ring is very useable too.Sharpness is excellent wide open in the centres and the edges clear up by around f2.8.Colour Rendering is pretty good and Contrast is very good, albeit a bit low at the edges.Chromatic Aberration is very minimal as is barrel distortion.Vignetting is almost non existent wide open. Ghosting and Flare is present but not enough to be an issue.Bokeh is very pleasing, a little imperfect but that gives it the good kind of character and overall this is one of my favourite standards lenses IQ wise in a while. This is a very decent competitor and I think this lens is excellent value.

The Meike 55mm 1.8 Pro is a full frame autofocus lens for the Nikon Z mount system. This is the first full frame lens from Meike I have used. I was impressed by the smaller f1.4 APS-C lenses especially because of the aperture ring which I miss on the new Nikon lenses. This description says PRO and high resolution 8k, so I used this on a Nikon Z9 which has Nikons highest resolution sensor (45.7M) .The body is about the same size as the Nikon 50mm 1.8S (slightly slimmer but slightly taller) so no real difference there. The focus ring feels similar too , and the autofocus works as expected, I didn't notice significant speed differences. However, the sharpness results were not what I was expecting:I tested sharpness by fixing a tape measure to a door and positioning the Z9 on a tripod such that the tape ran diagonally from corner to corner and spot focused on the center point of the frame and tape.I expected both lenses to be sharp at the center (the close up image shows 200% magnification of the Meike and the Nikon lenses side by side) and they were both very good. Then I inspected the corners and was very surprised to see the Meike was sharper than the Nikon and noticeably so. So the Meike lens was actually sharper at the corners than the excellent Nikon Z1.8S lens!I was not expecting that result based on the price of the two lenses. In the other images I tested the Meike for its out of focus quality (see the line of bottles) and also closest focus (the small orange on the tree) I would have liked to be able to focus even closer - I hope they come out with a marco lens. The last point I want to mention is the aperture ring, this is a feature I really like and is missing from the new Nikon lenses. The aperture ring on the Meike lens has clicks every 1/3 of stop , however, for me the clicks or indents were just too light, I occasionally found the aperture had changed setting as I was walking around. I would have preferred a firmer click, especially as there is an auto setting if you don't want to use the aperture ring manually.Pros and ConsThe Meike 55mm 1.8pro is comparable size and weight to the Nikon 50mm 1.8SThe center sharpness is comparable to the excellent Nikon 50mm 1.8S* The corner sharpness on the Meike 55mm 1.8pro is better than the Nikon ! *The out of focus rendition is pleasingThe autofocus works wellIt has an aperture ring :)I feel the aperture ring is too easy to moveThe Meike 55mm 1.8pro costs under $300 while the Nikon 50mm1.8S, on sale, still costs over $500 so it is excellent value.SummmaryI really didn't expect the edge to edge sharpness to be better than the Nikon S lens, and was anticipating it being almost as good for a lot less money. However , the Mieke actually has corner sharpness benefits, especially for users of the very high resolution sensors on the Z8 and Z9.The aperture ring is a nice extra feature although I would prefer a firmer click

I've been buying more of these Meike lenses recently and every time I'm super impressed with the quality. The build quality is really nice for a super budget friendly lens. The image quality much nicer than you'd think for the price. 55mm is a great focal length and this one shines at 1.8.There seems to be a slight magenta hue on these, both in camera and on the computer, but that was supr easy to fix... Other than that, there's no complaints. Price, aperture ring, AF/MF switch, light weight.... It really has everything higher priced lenses have.Highly recommend this for anyone not looking to spend GM money.

I have the classic Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8 lens, which I love. It’s great for portraits and street photography. I now shoot mirrorless (Z6ii) and don’t like having to take the FTZ II adapter off and on each time I change lenses. So, I’m slowing converting my kit to all Z-mount lenses and bout this 55mm f/1.8 to replace my 50mm.Build Quality: The build quality is excellent! The lens looks modern and has some cool red accents. It’s longer than my 50mm, but pretty light.Autofocus: Autofocus is quick and snappy and I haven’t experienced any hunting. It works great on both of my mirrorless cameras (Nikon Z6ii and Z30). It’s easy to switch to manual focus with the switch on the side. My nighttime photos are great with this and it performs very well. I've been taking a lot of photos of people in front of Christmas lights and am very happy with the results.Bokeh: The aperture ring is a really cool feature! The f-stop is changed on the lens rather than on the camera. It makes it easy to quickly change as needed when shooting. I use this often when taking photos as conditions quickly change. Bokeh is superb! The bokeh is very creamy and helps highlight the subject. It has also been great at higher apertures for landscapes and architecture.Overall, I’m very happy with the Meike 55mm f/1.8 lens. Focus is sharp and fast, the aperture ring is very useful, build quality is tough, and the photos I’ve taken look great. Meike is building itself as an excellent budget-friendly alternative to the Nikon lenses for us hobby photographers.
