The tensioner arm stop block limits the range of motion for the tensioner arm when needed thus preventing chain backlash and eventual valve train damage. If you've ever had a tensioner go out in a Chrysler 2.7l engine, you know the immediate dread of having to tear into the engine just to replace that one problematic little part. And if you happen to be on a trip far from home, you are hosed.This simple little plastic block is well worth it to ensure your car will continue to run properly in the event your tensioner fails. Also, don't listen to the review about the bolts being too short, they are perfectly acceptable and torqued to the proper spec with no problems.

Bolts that come with kit are WAY too short to grab enough threads (only 7.5mm of contact) to be torqued to 105 inch pounds spec, when these get ripped out you will have to buy longer bolts (at least 70mm long) reinstall it. The threads rip out of the aluminum HEAD due to the bolts only being 60mm long, tapered threaded bolt (HEAD threaded hole is 18mm deep) The plastic stop block itself appears to be too thick, mine had to be shaved 1/4" off the contact surface face (where it meets the tensioner slide) to even fit. Also, the hydraulic actuator cannot be released with the stop block in the way. (the stop-block had to be unbolted to allow the actuator to be primed) What a nightmare "upgrade" kit just waiting to ruin your engine build. When the aluminum threads "broke" in my head I was like huh? Then after inspecting the damage and parts with a digital caliper and seeing the issues, I was very upset. Overall- a failed product. Makes sense why only a small handful of mechanics knew about or talked about this product. It has to be modified to work and the steel, tapered end thread steel bolts that come with it can ruin your head's threaded aluminum holes at the OEM torque spec of 105 in pounds. If the bolts had no taper on the threaded end, a flat ended bolt, then maybe it would not have ripped out my threads, but the end of the supplied bolt has a 4mm long .7mm taper!!! This means that only 3.5mm of the threads were in close contact when I torqued to 105 inch pounds!!! No wonder it ripped out the aluminum threads! FAIL FAIL FAIL. BAD do not buy! DO NOT INSTALL. Melling should be notified immediately of this poorly put together kit and incompatibility with the Dodge/Chrysler 2.7L engine which I was led to believe it was designed for.
