Our Mendota gas fireplace would light but wouldn't stay lit longer than a few minutes. Replacing this piece solved the problem. The worst part of the repair was removing the old thermocouple from the gas valve…and taking out all the coals and logs, which I’d already disassembled while troubleshooting.Go ahead and get this one instead of a generic one from the hardware store. I bought one of those first, trying to save time and money. It worked as a tester, but it felt like it was going to slip out of place at any moment.

We purchased this original Mendota product to replace the same one we bought just one year ago. They only give you a 6 month warranty. Purchasing original replacement parts in this case does not get you a better built product or company that stands behind it.

I replaced my own! Take pictures of your log placement before you remove them.

Installed this along with a Mendota thermopile when our gas fireplace pilot kept going out. The repair was somewhat difficult, as the entire interior of the fireplace had to be removed to access the parts. However, these parts were a perfect fit and fixed the problem.

These have a very short life in an LP fireplace. Mendota makes a heavy duty unit (-84 vs -67) designed to withstand the higher temperature flame of LP. The standard 67 thermocouple will last a couple of year before burning through. The upgraded thermocouple is 3x more expensive, but when you discover what a pain-in-the-rear it is to change one of these in Mendota's brilliantly designed pilot assembly it a job you won't want to do twice. So spend the extra cash and get the upgrade.
