There're springs and do work. Have maybe 1/2 the strength of ones from a typical click-type pen. And wire thinner than expected, can kink rather easily. Need to be enclosed or have some inner support to keep from bending sideways. Was repairing some vinyl window sash latches and was able to make it work. But being so flimsy repair took additional MacGyvering to work properly.
