  • Built in Dual Springs: The hand tamper has a simple internal structure, which distinguishes it from other three/four spring constant pressure tampers. It can provide freer tamping pressure and create coffee with a more diverse flavor according to the mood, bean state, grinding degree, etc. of the day. Very suitable for busy cafe to improve production efficiency.(*To ensure the stability of the internal structure, it is not recommended to disassemble the tamper)
  • Automatic Reset: The reset spring inside the spring loaded tamper allows it to automatically rebound and reset after tamping, without the need for manual reset or adjustment. Reduce the uneven compaction effect caused by uneven strength、hand fatigue or negligence of novice coffee lovers.
  • Horizontal Press: The internal horizontal spring coupled with the positioning ring can help the self leveling tamper to be perpendicular to the coffee puck during tamping, so that there will be no tilting of the press resulting in one side of the powder being pressed tightly and the other side being pressed loosely, which reduces the channel effect and allows for a more stable extraction.
  • Suitable for Milk Coffee / Americano: The tamper tool adopts 53.35mm ripple base, which increases the contact area of water and coffee, so that the aromatic substances in the coffee can be extracted more, and get a cup of espresso with richer flavor compared to the flat-base.
  • Safe and Durable: The CD series espresso machine tampers adopts an aluminum alloy press handle and food grade SUS304 stainless steel base, without coating, protecting your health; Compared with solid wood handles,it has a longer service life and recyclability.
  • Brand Service:Whether you are a coffee lover or a professional barista, MHW-3BOMBER is an excellent choice if you want to ensure the premium quality and good user experience from espresso accessories. From all the tampers I have tested this one is my favorite. Now, its not perfect, but for the price it is quite good.Firs off, it feels nice and heavy. Good Material and the black looks very nice. It has a dual spring action stating that you'll always tamper at the right pressure (more later). When I disassembled it I could only get to the first spring, so aa deep cleaning would require tools. It has the ripple base and I have been able to make espresso with consistency. I do have to admit I am not the best at consistency so when I can get help with scales, good grinders and this dual-spring setup, it sure helps me a lot. Now, the nit-picky stuff. Even though the tamper states that it does consisten pressure, the question is, what is that pressure? So I tested it with my scale and it clocked in at around 15 lbs by the time the handle touched the bottom of the place. The part that makes it a little worse: As soon as you touch the bottom plate, if you keep adding pressure the pressure does increase. So, for one, it is a little below the pressure most people would say you should use (20-30lbs) and while the two springs should keep you at a constant pressure every time, you can't really tell WHEN you have reached that point. I saw some product online that have a sound or a click like ratchet tools where a specific footpound is needed to tighten a screw. Such an indicator would be useful to truly achieve the same pressure every time. Now I don't know how one can truly test this but based on my experience (and like I said, using this as my primary tamper) I am confident this will get you close, and if you follow your routine, consistent enough.

This spring-loaded tamper fits my 54mm portafilter perfectly. In contrast to my using a manual tamper where I might not be pressing exactly perpendicular to the portafilter, this is goof-proof in that respect, ensuring a level tamp. It is easy to grasp and has a solid feel in the hand, but it also has a few issues. It's not clear what is the resistive force of the spring, however, in my first extraction with this tamper, it hadn't applied sufficient force, leading to under-extraction. When I tried to measure the force with a scale, the base came off. I then realized it must have come loose during shipping, which MAY have contributed to the under-extraction. I then tried to screw back on the base and realized the threads are machined in the opposite direction of what one would expect. The tamper is back together again now, and I will keep playing with different levels of applied force.

OverviewThis espresso tamper is a high-quality, well-balanced tool that feels solid and precise in hand. It fits perfectly with my Breville the Barista Pro, and the spring-loaded design ensures a consistent, level tamp every time. The weight and build feel premium, and the ripple base leaves a great pattern on the coffee puck, adding a nice touch to the workflow.ProsThe dual-spring system makes tamping effortless and smooth, preventing uneven pressure and reducing channeling for a more consistent espresso shot. The stainless steel base is well-machined and durable, and the handle feels ergonomic in hand. It’s self-leveling, which helps maintain even extractions, and the automatic reset function makes it a quick and efficient tool, especially for repeated use.ConsNothing major so far—it performs exactly as expected. If anything, the internal structure isn’t designed to be disassembled, so cleaning inside the mechanism might not be possible.Final VerdictThis is a well-engineered espresso tamper that makes consistent, level tamping effortless. It’s solid, smooth, and precise, and the spring-loaded design adds an extra layer of control. If you’re using a 53mm or 54mm Breville portafilter, this is an excellent upgrade for a more consistent and satisfying espresso-making experience. Highly recommended.

I have a cheap spring tamper I’m going to compare this to. I wasn’t sure I really needed a spring tamper as I had been making espresso for quite a while. The cheap one certainly worked but the movement wasn’t great and the way it operated lead to grounds getting stuck in between parts.I love MHW-3Bomber products. I own their baskets, their accessories, their dosing funnels, and all sorts of other geekery items. They’re well made, they are well priced, and I have never been disappointed. This is no exception. The movement is very smooth. The slightly wider base fits my baskets perfectly. Because the whole piece moves into the handle the grounds don’t get stuck between the plates in the tamper because of the larger sizes of the plates compared to the cheaper one I own. The smother movement lets me know I’ve done a good job where as the cheap one I have sometimes does not give me the confidence that I did it correctly. This is just really well made and worth the extra money over a bargain basement model. You can certainly spend more money but it simply isn’t necessary. Now on the critique side, which is very minor, I don’t think the spiral actually does anything for you. On coffee YouTube, no one seems to think it does anything either. I’d rather them put that machining money back into the rest of the product. The instructions don’t really tell you what to do with it or why you’d want this. The marketing kind of does. It may be a little unnecessary for people buying it for themselves, but if you’re giving this as a gift you would appreciate better instructions in the box. Just write a little note for the recipient if you do gift this. Again, these are minor.
