These "heels" are a very good improvement to both personal safety and control of the workpiece. This is because the heel does not depend on only surface friction to hold and control the workpiece, but rather positively engages the back end of the workpiece which forces it to move in sync with the GRR-Ripper with no possibility of slippage. This has huge safety benefits as well because it ensures that if kickback of the workpiece occurs, despite your applying hand pressure forward, the GRR-Ripper,and your HAND, will also "kick back"instead of falling into the exposed blade.

Since I mostly work with thin stock, I need to be able to push completely through the blade. The GRR-RIPPER does work great for pushing material and keeping it against the fence, but lacks anything to push the materal. These little plastic parts slide down when you lift up the GRR-RIPPER and hold on to the wood. They also don't mind being pushed right through the blade. I leave one installed at all times and this helps keep my hands away from the blade.

This was the logical and next best improvement for their already great jig. Although the unit was already great for pushing your wood through your table saw blade, sometimes it just wasn't grippy enough to get the job done. These are great, expendable where your fingers are not. And, if you don't need it for a particular job you can simply loosen the clamping nut, lift it up out of the way and retighten the nut. They make a great jig and with all the replacement parts that are available for it there is no excuse for getting your fingers or hands anywhere near a spinning blade or cutter in your wood shop. They are worth having around the shop. Besides the table saw, their jigs are also terrific for the jointer and router tables, too. What are your fingers worth to you?

Another great safety add-on for your GR-Ripper from Micro Jig.I have two complete GR-Rippers with all of the accessories. These Gravity Heels are a nice addition to the GR-Ripper to help push the stock forward. This allows you to concentrate on the cut instead of whether or not you have enough pressure on the stock to ensure proper feed speed. When "leap-frogging" the GR-Rippers they properly retract when the GR-Ripper is placed on the stock, and automatically drop into place when you lift the GR-Ripper, so that they are ready for use when you get to the tail end of the stock.Due to their replacement cost I am hesitant to use them as blow-out protection, so I have not used them in that capacity. Instead, I use their shape and size as a template to create a "sacrificial heel" out of scrap wood. I make a dozen or so of these at a time so that I have a "sacrificial heel" ready to go whenever I need one. Works great.
