The debate between carbide tools or traditional woodturning tools is never ending, but it basically comes down to scraping the wood with a carbide tool, or cutting it with traditional tools. Both have their place, and neither choice is wrong. Carbide tools are beginner friendly due to requiring much less experience to properly use, and sharpening is completely skipped. Traditional tools require skill to hold the tool at the correct angle to get clean cuts, and the skill of sharpening and maintaining the edges. Carbide tools will leave behind a rougher finish because it's scraping, so it requires more sanding before finishing. It's honestly not that bad. These turning tools come with the four basic shapes to cover most turning projects and they're ready to go out of the box, another bonus of carbide.

This is a 4 pack of carbide tipped lathe tools. The tips can be rotated if one edge goes dull, and they can be fully replaced. Extra tips are provided. These are more scraper type, fine tools that produce a lot of dust. These are not geared towards roughing in.These are amazing quality. The metal shafts are thick and run into the substantial handles. Overall length is over 18 inches. This will allow you a lot of leverage to ensure these don't kick out on you in the worst way. The size of these definitely makes it feel safer using a lathe. These seem like a good value for peace of mind.

I don't have a ton of lathe tools, but I know the pricing on the major brands and this kit is a value kit that is well executed. The storage box is sturdy and the inner foam keeps them all locked in. You get one extra cutter per unit.I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the handles. They are excellent, with smooth finish and laser cut logo. They feel great in the hand and they are made of nice wood.The shafts are chrome with some imperfections. They feel sturdy enough, but I am not sure how far into the handle they go. There is a stainless ferrule to provide some strength.The cutters are as you would expect. They are easy to find on Amazon and cheap to replace.

This set feels very good in the hands for control while using. Much better than the straight aluminum carbide tipped chisels I have previously used. These are quality chisels and if you want carbide tipped chisels that you never need to sharpen then this is a good set to consider. I am super happy with this set and fully expect to use them for a long time.

I have had a set of imported carbide lathe tools for several years, and those tools are ok, but with one major issue. I often turn green wood, and when I do, water collects between the tool shaft and the carbide inserts, and causes rust on the tool. I ordered these tools because the claimed stainless shafts should be less of a rust issue. The future will tell me how that works out. But regardless, this new tool set is very high quality, and much better than the set I had. The square shaft of the tools are highly polished, and the corners are rounded. That combination makes the tools slide much more evenly down the tool rest. Also the rounded corners are more comfortable when I rotate the tool to do a shear-scrape cut. The set comes with the standard four styles of carbide inserts, with an extra cutter for each style. The diamond point cutter is of the rounded-tip variety, but the tool itself is machined to accept the sharp-point version as well. The only complaint that I have is I wish the handles were a little longer...they are 18.5 to 19 inches total length.

PROS: Very nicely made and designed set of lathing chisels with sharp rotatable indexed and replaceable carbide blades, includes extra set of blades and a hex key, well padded storage and/or gift box, solid mirror polished shaft with long enough ergonomic and comfortable solid wood molded handles. CONS: Unknown durability or longevity, but, it appears they will stand up to daily use for a considerable period of time. Polished Mirror shaft finish is slightly scuffed and scratched, but, only noticeable upon close inspection. Great value for this type of quality tool set, and would make a terrific gift too!

These work really well and hold a good edge. Theres a nice variety and they come with extra carbide blades which is really cool. They also are well packaged and look very pleasing to the eye
