The idli maker performed about as I expected it to.The material is high quality and quite sturdy. But it has one fatal flaw: it doesn’t have a center pin going through to hold all the platters in place. So when you fill the molds, you have to fill at opposite ends otherwise it tips over. Even then it’s an art.But more importantly, when taking them out, you can hold the center pin and lift all the trays up like you would with traditional molds. You’ll have to wait till it cools down significantly to hold the plate by the sides otherwise you’ll get burned!

But it is so fast and convenient! Just dab cups with coconut oil or ghee, put some water in the bottom, fill about 2/3, stack trays offset (if you are making more than one tray -- it works fine with 1, 2, or 3) and microwave 9 min.Cleans up very easily and I wash mine in the top rack of the dishwasher. One star docked because they are not as light and fluffy, and also because of this they get tougher as the sit.But zip zip zip and done! And so easy to clean.Really though only make as many as you will eat right then. They won't even be tender broken into sambar later.

Mom of two here…. Not a lot of free time. So this is awesome! I buy the idlis mix from Walmart and use it with this microwave idli maker. I put around 5 minutes and they are ready to it! Sometimes I need to heat the ones in the bottom rack a little bit more. But super easy. Completely recommended! Super easy to clean as well!!

Not enough space for water in the pan. Top shelf idlis are still uncooked while the bottom shelf ones are overcooked.Returned the product.

Put 1 cup of water in the bottom, spray the trays with oil, put your batter and microwave on high for 4-6 minutes. Let it sit for 2 mins before opening. It does not come with any instructions but there are tons of Youtube videos and you can figure it out based on what you're making. Instructions would have been good along with a mark for how much water to fill but otherwise good product. Works! Makes idlis

I had a sudden craving for idlis over the quarantine... But didn’t want to go through the hassle of making them with a steel cooker , not to mention the cleaning..This does the job really well. Can make 12 idlis at a time, and they do turn out pretty well. They are not a substitute for the softer idlis you can make with the traditional steel cooker, but I’ve methods online where you could probably add items to the batter to make it softer which you can explore to get the same output..My process is I fill it with about 1 to 1 1/2 cups of water at the bottom, and cook it for 6-7 minutes.. Sometimes the bottom layer tends to be a little undercooked, but it’s nothing another 2 mins in the oven won’t fix..Give this one a shot, especially if you’re living with a max of 2 members in a household and don’t need to make idlis in bulk.Happy cooking ⏲🧑🍳

This has become my go-to microwave cooker. I also use it with just the lid when I reheat a plate of food, perfect size, no splatters, keeps food moist and moisture out of my microwave. I have had no trouble cleaning this when used to steam vegetables, and reheat all sorts of food. It makes wonderful microwave baked potatoes! As for cooking idly, I cannot speak to this, my idly did not turn out like store bought, and I bought the silicone insert trays because people said it was hard to clean the idly from the towers. It was hard to clean the bits that overflowed the teflon inserts. Maybe my batter is to blame, I am not an idly expert.

I am not Indian, but was still able to make perfect Idli with this steamer! I tried them at an Indian restaurant and was hooked - but refused to pay $5 for 2 idli... so I got this steamer.I added a little bit of water to the bottomas one of the reviewers suggested - and I got perfect idli on my first try - in 4 minutes!I’ve learned that different Idli mixes and/or adding seasonings/herbs/small pieces of meat or veggies means that they will take longer to steam (an extra 3 or 4 minutes), but still come out perfect! I love that it is so easy to use and clean. It’s also nice to not have to break out the pressure cooker and heat up the house with steam. The first batch in the pics was plain, and the 2nd had a little MTR Spiced Chutney Powder added in - DELICIOUS!
