While I like this reel, it has its drawbacks. First the cons. You have to get ahold of this one or it may spin out of control. That's actually to be expected for this price point, but still a little concerning. Second, mine did not put the string back on the spool evenly like it should have, which was a bit of a problem. Now the pro's, first, it does not cost much and second it's easy to operate once you get the hang of the handle and make sure you have control of it. Overall, it's not bad and I would give it a B- rating.

This kite string reel is a welcome solution to the old spindle of wadded kite string. The included string is heavy test, a bright greenish yellow and there's plenty of it. This reel isn't perfect however:The plastic is a bit rigid and by nature feels more brittle than other plastics. I am not going to test it, but it feels as though it will break and or chip if you drop the reel from a modest height onto a hard surface.Also, and this is perhaps most crucial, the reel's string guide while handy is fixed in place, so as your reel in your kite, the retracting string keeps piling on itself, which eventually can cause a tangle. I've noticed this start to happen and have had to adjust the string's path in order to keep the tangles at bay. A less cautious user will no doubt encounter tangles and frustration. A better design, one with a reciprocating string guide would alleviate this issue and would be worth a few extra dollars it might add to the price. It's definitely keeping this product from 5 stars, and given the brittle plastic, one could argue it is a 3 star product, but if you're careful it should be relatively lohng lasting and frustration free.

This arrived in one piece and seems like it'll work well! It's fairly big and heavy and doesn't seem too small for my hand.

Very nice quality on this small kite reel, I think. The reel comes full of line and they've even put a snap swivel on the end for you. It has a good positive latch for storage and for when you want the line static. All it's missing is a brake, but those seem limited to much more expensive reels. All in all it's a nice reel and I'm happy to add it to my kite collection.

This kite reel is perfect. It is the perfect size. The string has good abraision resistance and lubricity. The plastic is nice and thick and the colors are cool. Performs great. It has a fishing style eye at the end so reels in quick! There is a plastic lock sort of like a deadlock on a door. If you want to slow the release tou just run your thumb on the outer rim. Super easy for kids to figure out and use on their own. No tangles or knots ever again!!! Awesome!!!

Difficult to use. When the wind takes the kite up the wheel spins so quickly your fingers will get caught. Actually cut into my husbands fingers. Hard to hold onto without it twisting around. Would return but the 30 day window is closed which is too bad b/c perfect days for flying kites aren’t that often. I don’t recommend this reel at all.Post script: I was contacted by the seller. They want their buyers to be happy. Made suggestions on using the kite&reel. Good customer service.
