I prefer to mend clothing whenever possible, and this darning mushroom helps make it even easier. There is a ridge for the elastic to fit into when you tie it around the fabric, so everything stays securely in place. Unfortunately, the mushroom stem does not securely stay in the cap. I have to hold it carefully while mending/darning. There is a small amount of storage room inside, but I don't really use it. I may end up gluing the cap on to make it easier to use.There are many darning needles included with the set, however they are quite large. Despite the appearance in some of the listing photos, they are all metal needles, not plastic. They seem to be good quality and are sturdy. I usually end up using my regular sewing needles instead, because I prefer working with smaller sized needles, and they work fine with the mushroom.

This is my first attempt at darning so I can't give expert advice on how well the needles work. The darning mushroom looks to be good quality and is great that you can store some needles inside the stem, how convenient! My main comment is that all pieces were present as I had ordered from another seller and the head of the mushroom was missing :( But, was very happy that this came compete as described. Now on to darn my first sock...

Whether it’s for financial, economic, nostalgia, or whatever, more and more people are going back to mending things. I’ve buckled down and gotten more serious about it myself, and was delighted to get this darning mushroom. The plastic needles have been thrown in the knitting bag for weaving in ends, the needle threader is very helpful and I added it to my Container of Threaders for future uses. The elastic works well to secure your mending to the mushroom. A fantastic deal at less than $10!

This is a wonderful little darning kit. It's easy to assemble but also comes apart for easier storage. it has everything you need to comfortably attach your work to the darning mushroom (elastic band and groove in the mushroom bulb). And it also comes with a needle threader and various needles. The needles are a great size for mid-weight yarn, but if you plan to use lightweight yarn, you might also want to grab thinner darning needles. Regarless, this kit gives you everything you NEED and it's a quality set. I'm thrilled to have it. It's going to prolong the life of many of my socks.

My grandmother taught me to darn a long time ago, and I’ve always wanted a special darning tool. She used an egg-shaped tool. While this is not exactly like my grandmother’s, the mushroom shape actually seems more useful. And darning is so much easier with a tool like this. I like this tool a lot. The shape is good and the wood is very smooth. The head fits neatly on the stem and stays in place while I work. The mushroom comes with a piece of elastic that can help secure the fabric around the mushroom head. The set also comes with a variety of darning needles. Sometimes I need a slightly different shape, but I also like having multiple needles to that I can pre-thread them. The is a useful set and very reasonably priced (at about $9 when I ordered). My clogs cause my sock heels to wear thin. I decided to darn them. Couldn't think of where I could get supplies I needed. Amazon of course had them! This purchase was better than a darning egg. The mushroom shape works better in adult socks. It had everything In needed and I didn't have to leave the house!
