The complaints first - for like 60 bux you can include written install instructions not this QR code nonsense - not that there isn’t a jillion install videos on YouTube - but not everyone has a QR reader( I do ) but if some Amish guy buys this he might have an issue - Also for the money include the pin! Reusing that crusty old one shouldn’t be at this price point!! The unit it self appears to be awesome- ALOT smother than the plastic one it replaced -install wasn’t so bad- another reviewer mentioned that the instructions say install with the notch up but when he did it it was notch down - mine was the same- when installed notch m/ flat part up for the handle when turning on the house water the fawcet was open despite the handle looking as if should be off no big deal took the handle off turned it over with pliers - turned house water on it was turned off as it should be - maybe it varies - who knows just a heads up but looks well built - real smooth as mentioned -still 5 stars as I realize my complaints are petty lol-

I replaced a 25 year old Moen cartridge on a shower, one-knob control. It took me a while to get the old cartridge out as it was stuck. I had to twist it until it broke, but once it was out, this bass replacement fit like a glove. It seated easily and solved my dripping problem. It turns smoothly, evenly, and easily. Very easily as others have said. It’s. Perfect fit and I’m thrilled with the result.Update: 6 months later…still working great. Feels solid, turns easily.

Found this to replace the multiple plastic cartridges for an outdoor shower, that I had gone through in freezing weather. The brass is solid and overall has saved me money and maintenance time...so far, has lasted 3 years

Update 2/27/2021: For the last 7 months, we have continually used the bathtub upstairs in this 5 person household. The cartridge is holding up well with no leaks and turns as freely as the day it was installed. The negative reviews here must be a one-off scenario because we have had great luck so far. Will update if things change.Side note: Today I changed a 22 year old Delta RP19804 Cartridge for my Delta 1300/1400 series shower rough in for our basement and I will say that this Moen 1222HD cartridge is so much easier to remove/replace than the Delta RP19904. If you are starting a bathroom remodel and are replacing your tub/shower rough in... go with Moen and this 1222HD cartridge for longevity and durability.Original Review from 7/30/2020:I purchased this item via the "Open Box-Never Used" section here on Amazon. It was WELL worth the savings over the cost of New in Box. At $30, this was an outright bargain. I chose this cartridge with the intention of doing the job once. Here are some caveats that you should be aware of:-If you order via open box, your new Brass Cartridge doesn't come with a packet of Lube for the rubber side gaskets and main O-Ring near the top of the stem. I recommend purchasing Jacks 327 Pool Lube by Hayward here on Amazon. That stuff is gold for pools, and is what I used for this job.-You will need an Allen key for the handle, Phillips Head Screwdriver, and Needle Nosed Pliers in addition to the Danco (for Moen Cartridges) or Moen Cartridge Puller and Danco 100% Silicone Lube or Jacks 327 Pool Lube for this job.Now that that is out of the way, you can begin the process of removing the Old Plastic Junk Cartridge that is in your existing shower valve.First thing is first.... Shut Your Water Supply Off! Leave the Valve open for a moment to let the remaining water drain out. Then, remove the handle by removing the Allen Key in the bottom of the handle, remove the phillips head screw holding on the handle adapters and remove. Remove the Metal Key Sleeve Cover. Pull out the metal clip holding in your cartridge using needle nosed pliers. Grab your Danco or Moen Cartridge Pulling Tool, loosen screw and latch onto cartridge. Tighten Screw into Stem.... turn puller left and right while gently pulling out and the cartridge should come out. Before installing new Moen 1222HD Cartridge, lube the fins on the side of the cartridge and the upper O-Ring (near the stem) with Jacks 327 Pool Lube or Danco 100% Silicone Lube that is not petroleum based and is meant for use in water. Re-Install your new 1222HD Brass cartridge by reversing this procedure. Before screwing the handle back on (last step), turn the water back on and test to ensure your valve is off and not dripping so you can put the handle back on correctly. Turn the water back off, tighten your handle, and turn the water back on to ensure its correct. This Cartridge has made such a LARGE DIFFERENCE in the ease of use for my 4 year old Moen Bathtub Faucet. I can turn it effortlessly with one finger now (it almost feels too loose), whereas before it was incredibly hard to shutoff... almost to the point of snapping the handle clean off.Its a shame that Moen doesn't include this cartridge with every one of their faucets to begin with. Those Plastic Posi-Temp Cartridges are junk because they have O-Rings inside that become hard or brittle over time due to hard water or sediment buildup. This causes them to seize up and fail, like mine practically did.Do yourself a favor.... Buy this cartridge once. Save yourself the aggrevation of doing it multiple times. Don't even consider buying the Plastic Cartridge. This is much better. Don't risk breaking your arm to shut your water off!

With a family of four, shows are important. I needed a control valve that can handle well water that has many unfriendly materials that are hard on valves. This control valve certainly reduced my shower failures. This product is functioning well in my circumstance and I recommend it for those who want reduced maintenance failures. I certainly recommend this valve.

My house was built in 2001 and one of my bathtubs, which has a single handle Moen facet, would not put out cold water. Water would only come out when it got to the hot water part of the handle rotation. The original cartridge the faucet used had Moen part number 96909. That part number has been replaced with Moen part number 1222 so this Moen 1222HD is a compatible replacement. I was definitely glad I bought the "DANCO Cartridge Puller for Moen (86712)" because there was no way I would have gotten the cartridge out without it. I followed all the instructions and was able to remove the old cartridge and install this better commercial quality one. The grease that comes with this cartridge was a little more watery than what I am used to compared to regular plumbers grease but I went ahead and used the included grease. There was plenty to coat the rubber fittings on the replacement cartridge as well as enough to coat the inside of the faucet housing the cartridge slides into. The new cartridge went in like butter. I was amazed at how much easier the tub's faucet handle now turns. With the old cartridge I had to use some force to turn the knob. With the replacement cartridge I could turn it with one finger. Everything works great now and I saved a ton of money. With the money you save not hiring a plumber, paying a little extra for this commercial grade cartridge is a no brainer. In addition to the cartridge puller I would recommend buying an extra retaining clip in case you accidentally lose the original. There appears to be two types of clips on amazon. One that is more rounded with more curves/bends in it and the other which is a flat brass looking one. The original clip that was on my tub was the flat brass looking one so I bought an extra one of those. It was a tight fit for the clip so I would recommend you make sure you get the same clip as what your faucet is using now.
