About this item

  • 1/2 inch Piston Rod: Heavy-duty nitrocarburized rod for long service life
  • All Weather Fluid: Contains special modifiers to reduce friction and ensure smooth rod reaction.
  • Full Displaced Valving: Better valving range on both the compression and extension cycles of the unit for a smooth comfortable ride.
  • Micro-Cellular Gas Design: Allows unit to be mounted horizontally.
  • Sintered Iron Piston: Stronger than traditional metals, enhances durability for longer service life.
  • Special Seal: 'Self-lubricating' fluid seal designed to retain gas without excessive wear or friction.

The Monro-Magnum® steering stabilizer stops vibration before it gets to the driver. Acting as a horizontal shock absorber, Monro-Magnum® steering stabilizers help reduce vibrations that travel through the steering system to the driver.

Found my stock steering damper was barfing oil, so I replaced it with this one - and it looks, installs, and functions as the original. No need for the included hardware.

They never last long before busting a seal and leaking the oil out

The studs are straight to fit through the rubber bushings, and were (correct fit) tapered studs to mount to my 1995 80 series Land Cruiser. Valving is easily twice as stiff as the stabilizer I replaced. (Possibly a 20 year old OEM part.) Removing the old stabilizer can be challenging. After undoing the two nuts (which should have had cotter pins, and the studs on this shock *do* have), you will need to use a "pickle fork" or tie rod puller (or both) to get the old tapered studs loose. One of my studs was stuck so hard that I needed to bang on the pickle fork with a 5 lb. sledge. In any case, this shock is a significant improvement from the shock I replaced!

Works as advertised. Fitment is OK at best, but that's all it needs to be. It's a steering damper all it has to do is resist the same both directions and bolt in place. I wish it came with a bellows, but it doesn't so i installed a universal bellows with some zip ties. It was a minor player in the suspension refresh of my 1994 land cruiser.
