This stand is well made and will last a lifetime. The design is excellent and I found that the clips and tiltability make it very stable in holding your whole sheaf of music.

Comme tous les pupitres d’orchestre de la marque Hercules, il est très fonctionnel, très solide, très stable, mais.... lourd et encombrant même replié.Quoiqu’il en soit, ce pupitre est TOP !!!Je recommande cet achat.

This stand is nice and sturdy, with wide legs to brace it, and folds up well. It's light enough that it's portable, but heavy enough that a breeze won't blow it over. What I don't like is that in order for the tray not to suddenly dump everything, you have to tighten its screw so tight that it's not at all adjustable. A quirk that I don't understand is that the stand itself has a "tip" feature. There were no directions with it explaining that feature; it would be nice to know what it is for. Also it would be nice to know where to buy instrument pegs for it, I don't see any on the Hercules website.

This stand is not a convenient travel stand at all. The legs fold in but the base structure is very bulky and the actual stand rod is so long it doesn't even fit in my checked suitcase diagonally! The top part folds in half but because the connector attachment on the back is so large, it doesn't fit into the top of my violin case unless it's completely unzipped at which point the stand falls out anyway. The 45 degree tilt also doesn't have a stabilizing option so if you don't set the stand down the right way and reach up to turn a page to fast, your whole stand and music could just fall over.I wish I'd been able to return the stand but where I bought it I didn't have the ability to do so. I'd rather have my old Massenet stand where the legs fold up and the stand detaches. It was MUCH lighter weight, just as durable, and a lot more compact. The only reason I give it two stars is because it is durable so far. I've traveled India and the USA with it and it's holding up ok. Still hate carting it around and would love to sell it and buy my old Massenet stand instead.

The feature I like the most on this stand is its transportability. As depicted, you can split the stand in two parts and the desk folds itself, saving a lot of space. Actually, this last is what makes it really easy to transport this stand.Another great feature is the ability to move the legs of the stand at different angles. A bit obvious is the fact that the wider you open the stand's legs, the better stability you can get; but this feature is really handy when you have a lot stuff in the floor and need to have flexibility in the stands. In my case, I use this stand for having my sheets and an iPad for practice and live performances, but I also use a mic stand with boom and in the floor I have a pedal board with a couple of so, I need flexibility in my stands. The BS301B does the work perfectly. The feature of bending the vertical of the stand is also helpful although you really don't have a great range of angles for moving it.As some sort of con, I'd say that the mechanism for changing the tilt of the top part of the stand is not friendly. You have to really tight it so it won't move easily, but in the same way, if you have to make further adjustments, it's going to take you some time and effort. For storing after a performance, it's a bit annoying to set the thing in a compact way.The EZ Clutch system is something I was disappointed whit when I received the stand, because I was expecting a perforated tube (like the ) but so far, it has been doing the right job. It never has slipped or has been a problem but I must say that I haven't tried with a heavy weight on it. The most of the times I only have the iPad and some bunch of sheets.Another thing to be noticed is the fact that in all Hercules stands I have, the release notch for splitting the booms from the stands (or in this case, the folding desk form the stand) doesn't allow you to easily turn the stand. You always have to release the notch if you want to do such things... I mean, you can do it, but the stand will fight against you... as probably is its function.Anyway, I'm happy with the stand and the bag is really handful. I carry three hercules stands on it including the BS 301B.

So I ordered this music stand for my wife who is a professional Viola / Violin player to take on travel gigs. She already owns a custom wooden music stand I had made for her (which she keeps in her music studio for private lessons) and I bought the Hercules BS301B EZ Clutch Music Stand as a gift ($66.75 including S&H). I looked all over online and visited in person and narrowed it down to a few stands, this one and one other plastic version. I was leery of the plastic music stand as I wanted something durable and that wouldn't blow over if she played outside in the wind (she does weddings & gigs outside sometimes). A few reviews I read online said the plastic ones were cheap and not as durable. I was afraid the first time she played outside and it blew over a plastic stand would chip or get cracked. After receiving the stand we opened up the box and was happy to see the quality of the stand. It's metal so it is heavier that it looks but the quality build is wonderful. It took all but about 5 minutes to set up. The legs are very high quality metal and my wife noticed the rubber feet are extremely well made and thick. Once we unfolded the legs I placed the stand top on to the pole and latched it down. My wife liked that the shelf folded down and also had sheet music holders (which is good for when you are outside). She also like the ability to adjust the stand height with the EZ Height adjustment grip. It is easy to raise and lower and works for both sitting down or standing up.This music stand is sturdy, easy to put together and it even came with a FREE clip to hold your music books open while playing. Nice touch Hercules! I would recommend this stand over any of the ones I looked at online or in the stores. I also ordered the Hercules BSB001 Carry Bag For BS401/411/300B ($17.95 including S&H) for her to carry the stand in. Fits perfect can't go wrong with either purchase. The quality can't be beat... wish the bag was a little more subtle displaying the Hercules name / brand, other than that NO complaints! Run don't walk to get this item, you won't regret it. I don't and my wife couldn't be happier!! A++
