While I have experience setting up a guitar, I was a first time user of nut files; I have an acoustic that had high nut slots on the G/B/e strings (measured using the MN nut height gauge). The B string was especially high and was buzzing when played open. I watched a couple of MN’s YouTube videos on the topic and after only a few strokes of the file the slot was down to the appropriate height and the buzzing was mostly gone (there was a high fret at play as well). Very pleased with these files. My advice, closely watch MN’s how-to videos and then take your time!

Great quality tool, a little pricey. Tool is a great size very functional and easy to use. Comes with a very nice metal case. Looks like you could get another file or two in it. I always recommend Music Nomad products, so far they have never let me down.

I’ve always dreaded cutting new bone nuts for guitars, mainly because I didn’t have the right cutting tools. Last week I received my new nut string files. This made the job so much more pleasant and easier than the finished product was much nicer. Ordered the set that was 13 through 56 but I also ordered an extra .010 so I’ll be able to do all the string gages that I use. so I’m happy this is the first nut that I’ve cut from scratch that’s turned out decent looking.

Like my other review for some MusicNomad stuff I bought, it seems like they are good quality. And again my complaint is they are a bit pricey for what you get. But the only thing cheaper is the generic stuff and it doesn't look so good. So MN it is.

I am a professional luthier / repair tech, & I've been cutting slots in bone, plastic & composite nuts since the 1980's. I've tried most of the nut files on the market over the years & none were really satisfactory. I've been using the expensive Grobet files for a long time now & was never really happy with them.Uncomfortable to hold, the thin traditional files are easily broken & they don't cut anywhere near as quickly or consistently as I'd like.I've only used these new files once, but I am very impressed. These files don't jam or stick in the slots. They cut fast & leave a smooth finish. They are comfortable to hold. The blade is supported in its plastic handle, so is unlikely to break easily. The end of the file assembly won't damage the peghead or tuner post finish if I slip. The Diamond abrasive is applied to the side of the blade, not just the bottom. This makes the file glide smoothly as the slot gets deeper. No jamming like with traditional files. There will be a learning curve because these files cut very fast. Gentle pressure & checking the action often will be necessary.I'm so pleased with the set that I'm ordering two more (.036" & .046") to fit all of the string gauges I see most often.Cutting soft materials like bone & plastics, the Diamond abrasive should last half of forever.**********After several months of using these tools, I am still pretty impressed. BUT...These files continue to be superior in most ways over files I've used in the past, but they do have one annoying flaw. The bulky plastic housing. The plastic "frame" is comfortable to hold & it supports the thin files nicely, but it needs to be modified around the nose of the tools. The files don't fit well between the strings, making it necessary to slack off some strings to make room for the extra bulk. This is especially annoying, working on double course instruments like mandolins & 12 string guitars.I have removed material from the nose of one file & it is much better. I'll probably modify the full set.I hope Music Nomad will take note & change the design of this otherwise, excellent tool set.

These files are perfect for filing guitar nuts, even acoustic guitar saddles as some folks prefer to adjust those by filing from above instead of removing and sanding the whole saddle bottom. A six file set pretty much encompasses both acoustic and electric guitar strings sizes and you can add the .010" and .050" or 056" individual files for high E and low E strings. The handle keeps the file straight and is ergonomic to use. These are a little pricey, but well worth the money for a nice accurate job.

I bought one do the cheaper ones and it made very wide gaps which resulted in me having to buy another new replacement nut. I also bought this kit and it is exactly what I should’ve bought in the first place.

Quality construction of files but carry/ storage box not very well made and not well thought out. Unable to store files in an organized manner.
