Every time I go on a group ride somebody or other drops his chain so the whole group has to wait for him to put it back on his chain ring. This chain catcher prevents that from ever happening at ridiculously low cost. The other design for a chain catcher which clamps to the braise on, front rail doesn’t work any better, but complicates tuning the front derailer. Better to have the two functions separate.

This was installed on my road bike in October 2022. The quality seems fine. Since installed I've had about four chain drops this caught them all.

I received this item lashed to a cardboard backing but with NO screw; my guess is that it was supposed to have one but it unscrewed and fell out before the item made it to the Amazon envelope. The picture clearly shows a screw hole and what looks to be the insert end of a screw.Luckily, I had a screw that works (at least so far), but if I hadn't, this would have been a wasted purchase, because the device wouldn't be secure enough to prevent the chain (if it fell off) from twisting it and rendering it useless. I suggest you try a different brand or purchase this from a bike store.Note that this type of device isn't necessarily intended to keep the chain from falling off (as a previous reviewer indicated); it just prevents the chain (if the derailleur fails) from getting stuck down around the axle, which can be quite a hassle.

Bought this for a kid's bike with a 1x7 drivetrain. The arm doesn't stick out quite far enough to have a proper installation.

Every bicycle needs one of these if you have ever over shifted and dropped your chain right off the rings. Has happened to me on several occasions usually while trying to climb a steep hill. Not much worse than no resistance all the sudden while going up hill. Installed so far no more issues.
