National Artcraft's 9-piece carving set is designed for the beginning stone carver. This set comes complete with the essential tools to shape and finish most carving projects. The tools are made of 1095 steel which is hard enough to shape most any stone material EXCEPT granite and similar hard stone. This set includes various straight and saw-tooth chisels, pointed tools and a sturdy 1.4 lb. hammer with a 7-1/4" handle. The tool shafts range from 5/16" to 9/16" in diameter and the blades measure from a sharp point up to 1-1/4" wide. The tools come in a dark olive green canvas roll-up pouch.

These tools are of excellent quality and are just what anyone would need to get started carving stone. Value-wise you couldn't do better than these--you get a nice variety of tools that will do a lot of things. Highly recommended for beginner or advanced.

This product is listed on Amazon as a stone carving tool, which is misleading as its missing additional information only available on the actual manufacturers website that indicates this product is only suitable for carving soapstone and other very soft stones. I purchased this product not knowing this and significantly dulled and bent every tip in roughly 5 minutes. On a lighter note, I was able to carve a small happy face while camping into some rather tough rock in the 30 minutes this tool kit lasted. Now it will serve as a bent and mangled reminder to not buy sight unseen.

Stone carving Set Is Of Low Quality For Limestone Carving As Per The Master Carvers At The Symposium. But then, their recommended tools each cost more than this set.

I recently bought a house with a stack of flagstone in the back yard, and I used these tools to cut the flagstone and fashion an attractive patio extension and walkway. I was able to make the pieces fit together with narrow inside joints and a smooth curve on the outside edges of the patio and walkway. My second project is in progress. I have some hypertufa blocks that are too well-cured to carve with anything like the conventional stiff putty knife, so I'm carving the blocks into Olmec-style heads to use as garden ornaments. So far so good. I really enjoy using these tools.
