This shield boss or umbo comes in 14g iron making it fully functional and ready for battle. To mount your boss there are six pre-drilled holes and included is mounting hardware. The back side has a glossy black finish. The front features antique brass plating. You can usually find shield bosses on round shields round because one makes a punching motion towards an oncoming blow which can’t be done with other shields. Umbos are great at deflecting or taking the brunt of the blows. This boss would make a great addition to any Viking shield you are creating.

Item was not as it shows in the picture. much too small to be usable. It is so shallow you can't fit your hand in.

Photos on Amazon show the boss with 4 rivet holes. It arrived and has 6 rivet holes. Which is it? Otherwise, it’s pretty nice. The attached photo shows the boss on the left side with a different one to compare it to on the right.

Item shipped without nails or rivets (description says mounting hardware is included). Otherwise fair quality. External surface has requested finish and internal surface is painted black. Black paint is chipping and the underlying metal will likely rust at some point. Otherwise well packaged in grease.

Good boss for a homemade shield. I used regular screws instead of the supplied rivets but it looks good on the shield. Have a great time make the dang thing!

It is a shield boss, but nothing like the listing here on Amazon. The front is neither finished in black like it is advertised nor does it have only 4 attachment holes. Further more, the boss is neither a deep dish like it is shown, nor is it rounded entirely. The only reason why I am gicing it 2 stars is cause it came packages in some nice grease. Definitely will not be spending money on this again....
